Mac OS X HFS+ metadata patch, take 2
...and Finder metadata) to non-HFS+ filesystems (Linux, Solaris, etc). I finally got a chance to update the patch to reflect suggestions offered on the list. Thanks for the ideas, this version should be a big improvement. The diff and a binary (and a fuller explanation) can be found at: http://www.quesera.com/~reynhout/misc/rsync-hfsmode-patch The current patch is against rsync-2.6.2. It still works with the standard build of rsync on the receiving side, so only the sender needs to be patched. For a single HFS+ file, there will be between one and three files transferred to the destination filesys...

HFS+ resource forks: WIP patch included
...architectural advice, please do so. If you can offer C syntax or style critique, please do so. It looks like I'm going to be using this pretty heavily, and at some point depending on it, so I have significant interest in making it work as well as it can. Thanks for your help, Andrew reynhout@quesera.com OVERVIEW OF PATCH ================= If --hfs-mode switch is specified, check every regular file on the local filesystem (no FStype checks) for the presence of a resource fork. If found, add it as an additional file to the flist, but change the name it will be synced to on the destination FS...

rsync HFS+ -> UFS2
Hi, This is my first post to this list. I have been backing up some files with rsync from My Mac OS X 10.4.7 machine, which uses HFS+ filesystem to a FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE machine, which uses UFS2 filesystem. They go across a 100-base-T lan, which has little or no traffic on it. On my Mac, I mount the nfs exported volume on the FreeBSD machine with: $ mount -t nfs moe:/backup

Confusion regarding rsync vs. rsyncx
We currently do backup using rsync amongst Linux and Solaris machines. Modulo an ACL issue that we had to patch, this is working extremely well. But I want to add our OSX machines to the mix. This is, unfortunately, leaving me confused about rsyncx. I can do the normal thing from OSX using rsync. But the page for rsyncx says - cryptically, in my ignorant opinion - that rsyncx adds support for
