Need Python3 for C6
I need Python 3.4 (latest) on CentOS 6 for development purposes (teaching programming). Need advice for best method to do this. I am concerned about not breaking the internal plumbing of C6. I was thinking about installing it into /opt. I noticed http://puias.math.ias.edu/data/puias/computational has 3.3 but I need 3.4 (asyncio module). Wondering if anyone has tried python3 from puias repo ? Does it break anything? Also, found http://toomuchdata.com/2014/02/16/how-to-install-python-on-centos/ Any advice welcome.

Akemi, Most of the packages should already be in my repo, EPEL or PUIAS. If this works, I'll look at incorporating it in nux-dextop. Lucian -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! NTFS-3g from EPEL doesn't work here, older one from PUIAS does
Hello there, here on my CentOS 6 (up-to-date), since a recent update of the NTFS modules to ntfs-3g-2014.2.15-6 from EPEL repo, mounting my NTFS partitions simply doesn't work ("NTFS signature is missing"). Back to puias' 2011.4.12-5.puias6 and it works again. Such issue observed on several CentOS systems, while upgrading to 6.6. Did I miss something? I browsed the web and RH's bug tracker but found nothing yet. Regards, -- wwp -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed....

3rd party repositories
Can anyone comment on the use of 3rd party repos for newer versions of software like php, python and mysql? Two I am aware of are puias and ius. Is one preferable to the other? Can their packages be installed in parallel to and without interfering with base packages?

Last few days in CentOS
...at I posted this back when the beta was announced, but it seems to work just fine on my fanless VIA C7 firewall/router/proxy/ IPA/CUPS/Asterisk box. I've been waiting impatiently for this to go GA ever since, so I can start seriously bugging the EPEL guys. Re the kernel, how do the Springdale/PUIAS handle this issue? It might be worth copying their approach and/or coordinating. -- ======================================================================== Ian Pilcher arequipeno at gmail.com -------- "I grew up before Mark Zuckerberg invented friend...

Centos 6.3 - which repos to use?
...was wondering what the problem would be and whether to use this repoo or the website. The fact that a maintainer has made this repo suggests a reason rather than just convenience. c] Could one just use pkgs.org to install from? My google "centos abiword" threw up yet another repo 'puias' and this has the latest Abiword version 2.8.6. http://pkgs.org/centos-6-rhel-6/puias-i386/abiword-2.8.6-3.puias6.i686.rpm.html I could just install from pkgs.org/centos-6 it would seem? Point is the repos are maintained by an expert rather than folk just downloading. I was then confused furth...

Yes, that clip does not have sound. I'll try to upgrade ffmpeg in the following days, see if that helps FF. build c7 packages for i686 using mock
This might be an embarrassingly simple question. How are people building multi-arch library packages on CentOS 7? On older releases one could "mock -r epel-6-i386" and "mock -r epel-6-x86_64" to build a library twice. With no 32-bit release, there's no epel-7-i386 target for mock. Specifying --target=i386 or --arch-i386 both fail. Do we have to set up the
