How much Ruby?
...s ago, and I have been reading through it and learning Ruby in my spare time. I''m about 200 pages into it, and I''m starting to think I don''t need to know all of the in''s and out''s of Ruby to get a good hang on Rails. How much Ruby do I really need to be proficient in Rails? Ruby is a great language, I love it, but I don''t see myself ever using it outside of Rails. Thanks a lot, -- Matt -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://wrath.rubyonrails.org/pipermail/rails/attachments/200...

Hi all, We''re writing a few scripts at the moment that could really make use of Facter, however the vast majority of them team (including my self!) are not proficient in Ruby, however they are highly proficient in other languages such as (dare I say it!) Python. Is there (or are there any plans to!) release bindings for other languages to enable facts to be used in scripts other than puppet. Kind regards, Matt -- You received this message because you are...

When a transferred to a research unit that could ill afford commercial software, I devoted my entire time to doing everything in R. This was a difficult learning process, but I eventually became proficient in R. The conceptual paradigm for R is only marginally commensurate with that of standard statistical software. You must immerse yourself in R to become proficient. Good luck, Joe Bert Gunter <bgunter.4567 at gmail.com> Sent by: "R-help" <r-help-bounces at r-project.o...

I wonder if this isn't a routing issue, but I am not very proficient in that area to troubleshoot and fix. Where should I start? I'd like to use this as an opportunity to learn more about networking and VMs, so bear with me if I ask stupid/basic questions. Thanks!

Slightly OT: which hardware for CentOS file server (Samba, 2 To storage, 50 users)?
...ersity has contacted me. They'd like to have a low-cost file server for storing all their language video files. They have a mix of Windows, Mac OS X and even Linux clients, roughly 50 machines. The files are quite big, and they calculated a total amount of 2 To of storage. I'm not very proficient with hardware, meaning either I'm dealing with remote servers in some datacenter, or otherwise I install CentOS desktops on any hardware people throw at me. Since the aim is lowcost, would it be wrong to install that fileserver on a no-name desktop PC with a 64bit processor and enough RAM,...
