POSTING DATE: JUNE 9, 2011 CLOSING DATE: JUNE 30, 2011, OR UNTIL FILLED The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks to recruit a Technical Writer into its HarvestChoice team in the Environment and Production Technology Division. This is a one-year, exempt, renewable appointment depending on performance and funding based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, D.C. HarvestChoice is mandated to generate, disseminate and enhance the capacity to utilize strategic information on investment options for raising smallholder productivity and market participation in sub-Saharan Africa. HarvestChoice is jointly implemented with the Center for International Science and Technology Policy and Practice (InSTePP) at the University of Minnesota, and cross-team collaboration in achieving the goals of HarvestChoice is an important source of synergy and innovation in the initiative. The Technical Writer will work under the day-to-day supervision of IFPRI HarvestChoice team leader. Essential Duties: - The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to and developing the documentation of the data, tools and analyses generated by the IFPRI HarvestChoice team. Such documents include data and method technical notes, working papers, and investment briefs - Managing the web content pipeline of the team IFPRI onto the HarvestChoice website, preparation of documents in publishable format, and working in close collaboration with divisional and institute communication specialists ensuring HarvestChoice outputs are appropriately promoted and disseminated (including the use of social media). Required Qualifications: - A minimum of Bachelor's degree in either an agriculture or environment related discipline or in technical writing/communications with a strong track record of developing scientific or technical documentation. - At least 3 years of post graduation work experience in a relevant position with clearly demonstrated contribution to a number of technical publications. - Strong writing skills in English. - Ability to communicate complex research results in a concise and engaging fashion, in both verbally and written - High level of proficiency in the use of document preparation and sharing software tools in networked and web-based environments, and experience in the use of social media tools. - Proficient in generating clear and compelling graphics and tables from large data files and in the use of desktop and web publishing or similar publication-ready document software - Highly output-focused and conscientious with a strong attention to detail. - Ability to work under pressure in an international team setting. Preferred Qualifications: - Proficiency in the use of GIS software to annotate and publish maps - Proficiency in French - Data management skills in Excel and MySQL - Experience in generating infographics TO APPLY: External Applicants: Go to www.ifpri.org .
