NFS with UCARP vs. GlusterFS mount question
Morning Folks,
should I prefer NFS with UCARP or native GlusterFS mounts for serving the
system images to XCP?
Which one performes better over 1G network links?
NFS is probaby easier to setup due to existing tools like rpcinfo and
showmount, both are used inside the storage container code, and there is some
code for NFS, not for GlusterFS, except I write one.
UCARP has the disadvantage that

Funky character display in rails / mysql
I''m getting complaints from one of my customers that characters in their
text are getting mangled. This happens when they paste data into my
textboxes in rails from MS word in particluar.
Quotes are turning into question marks, etc.
Anyone have a fix / workaround for this?

Deployment Suggestions
Did a quick search, but didn''t come up with anything definitive.
So what does everyone think is the best low maintenance and most hassle
free way to go for deployment? Is lighttpd still everyone''s choice?
I remember seeing one that was a pre-packaged environment with apache I
think. Anyway, just about to deploy an app and thought I''d ask
suggestions - want to see

You may be correct Michael, but I still wouldn't use '--enable-fhs' by
itself.

Bi-directional self-referential HABTM
Hi,
I''m having a little trouble figuring out how to make a self-
referential HABTM bi-directional.
I have a Employee class. Each employee can have a couple of bosses,
who are also employees. The employee class has the following HABTM:
has_and_belongs_to_many :bosses, :class_name =>
"Employee", :join_table => "bosses_courses", :association_foreign_key

I'm not getting the error with the configure script (on Kain, anyway).
I've tried it with --with-f2c and with f96 (NAG Fortran compiler) in and
out of my $PATH.
Can you verify that the configure script works for you without the
--with-f2c option?

Non-R question.
Hola!
I have a problem which is not strictly R, although R will be used for the
analysis.
We have data from a large investigation of drug abuse, initially
analyzed by logistic regression. But the pupils are selected by first
sampling schools, and as it happens the prevalence of use varies sharply
from school to school, so there is over-dispersion.
Now we are interested in comparing the

SMDI Bounty - where?
I am the one that placed the bounty. After it being there for 2 months
and getting no takers (and very few if any people asking about it), we
are almost finished writing it in house. I'll keep the bounty up untill
we do finish our product so if anyone beats us to getting it working
they'll get paid...

First of all thank you all for the answers and for trying to help me.
I agree with you michael regarding the parameters passed in the ./configure
command, the location is not part of the problem.
The file system used is XFS. and the strace command logs are in the

How to do network emulation on incoming traffic?
I''m trying to simulate a satellite link to a Linux server to test
application performance. I haven''t used any of the tc stuff before,
but I blandly assured people it would be "easy" to set up a simulated
long thin pipe on a spare network interface.
However, now that I''m exploring, it''s proving quite difficult.
Let me start with the general question
