Python 3.x on Centos 7
Is there a way to install Python 3.x on Centos 7.x without breaking
anything that depends on an older version of Python? This server is a
minimal Centos 7 install that primarily runs a simple LAMP setup.

[Totally OT] CSS Best Prac. Rails Apps
I''ve used Verdana heavily in many of my sites. My graphics designer likes it
and so do my clients. There is a well-reasoned discussion that goes
something like:
- Verdana is bigger than any other font in default size
- If a user doesn''t have Verdana, what they see may be way smaller than
designed
- Ergo, don''t use Verdana
What is everyone else doing? 80+% of my site

This is an informal poll.
If you are primarily a Ruby programmer,
- What was your primary language before you started coding in Ruby?
Else,
- What''s your current programming language of choice?
I''ll start:

Finding lshw and flash-plugin or alternates
Dear CentOS Gurus
I have been using "repoforge.org" primarily to obtain two RPMs,
"lshw" and "flash-plugin". I recently realized that "repoforge.org"
should not be used, as it has had no updates for a long long
time. But, when I search for the RPMs within the repos:
base
centosplus
contrib
epel
extras
updates
the lshw program is nowhere to

Encrypted remote backup?
Can anyone recommend a commercial off site remote backup service with a
client (preferably FOSS) for CentOS 5, preferably that allows encryption
of the data being backed up?
Small scale, I'm primarily looking to just back up my mail folder on my
server.
I've been backing it up to local hd via rsync but that drive just died,
I'd prefer to have it backed up to somewhere more stable

R and Supervised learning
Luca:
1. We are not a consulting service. We *help* with R pogramming issues.
Users are typically expected to make an effort by providing R code and, if
appropriate, small data sets that illustrate their difficulties.
2. SEARCH! e.g. on "text processing R" or some such; or try Rseek.org with
such searches. R has extensive text processing capabilities, e.g. via
regex's.

Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch recommendations
Hi listers,
I am looking for people who have used Power over Ethernet switches, primarily in conjunction with Polycom IP 501's. I've been looking at the Linksys SRW224P, since I've had good luck with the SRW224 in our office. However, Nortel, Cisco, Adtran, etc. all have an offering, all of which vary in price. I would appreciate any input people have to offer.
Thanks,
James

vcedit on non-vorbisI streams
I've been looking at modifying vcedit so it will
work on Ogg streams containing primarily Vorbis
data (i.e. first page is the Vorbis header, most
pages are Vorbis and a few are something else
e.g. metadata or lyrics).
I've managed to get something that works by:
1. During the header opening in vcedit_open
push non-Vorbis pages onto a buffer added to
vcedit_state and write them out after

SCEV/IndVars Code Owner Nomination
I would like to nominate Sanjoy Das as code owner of Scalar Evolution and Induction Variable Simplification.
Scalar Evolution has never had an official code owner, but does regularly need in depth review. Over the past year and a half, Sanjoy has made fantastic contributions to SCEV and has been responsive reviewing patches. He is clearly the authority at this point.

zfs send/recv reliability
After looking through the archives I haven''t been able to assess the reliability of a backup procedure which employs zfs send and recv. Currently I''m attempting to create a script that will allow me to write a zfs stream to a tape via tar like below.
# zfs send -R pool at something | tar -c > /dev/tape

which() function not finding certain numbers
Hi,
I am using 32-bit R v 2.15.1, on Mac OsX v 10.6.8 with R GUI 1.52 Leopard
build 32-bit (6188). I have also replicated this error on R 2.13.2 on a
windows 7 machine.
In some sequences of numbers, I am unable to use the which() function to
index certain values. It seems to be primarily numbers with a 3 in the
decimal.
For example:
> S=seq(0,4,0.01)
> which(S==2.02)

currently have a 250Hz stock standard kernel. I am running on a soekris

Recommendations regarding textbooks
Hello
I was hoping to get some advice regarding teaching R in an academic environment.
What are the best choices with respect to textbooks?
When this question was asked a few years back, people were primarily
recommending ?Modern Applied Statistics with S? and ?Introductory
Statistics with R? as two good choices. I?ve also heard some good
thinks regarding ?An R Companion to Applied

Use of MathJax (or something similar) in .Rd files
Hello All,
I am wondering if there has ever been any discussion/consideration given to incorporating MathJax (or something similar) into R for rendering equations in .Rd files. I know that equations are rendered beautifully in the pdf manuals, but I suspect the majority of users primarily look at the html help files when using R. While I am comfortable reading something like "B_x(a,b) =

Public vs. Private Network
Hello -
I am looking at connecting 7 - 10 locations together using Asterisk and
possibly some VoIP gateway appliances. I need to insure best voice
quality as these trunks will be used primarily for customer calls. I am
considering implementing a full T1 frame relay circuit to each location
which can be done for a reasonable cost. DSL and Cable are currently at
each location and setup for
