[LLVMdev] dot release for 3.4
We are starting to move to using llvm/clang x86 as the starting point for mips native compilers. It's important to make sure that gcc cross compilers can do this too but sometimes there are issues there; especially now as c++11 is moving into the foreground. We are working to also make sure this works. As 3.5 llvm is probably around the corner; our use of clang/llvm for this starting

Agile Web Development book - version 4.0 released
I don''t know if I missed this on the list, but the Agile Web Development with Rails book is now at version 4.0, for those of us who bought the PDF from the Prag Prog site. Just a few typos and corrections from the looks of it, but can''t hurt to get the latest. You can reorder the book for download at: http://books.pragprog.com/titles/rails/reorder Cheers, Tom

Authorisation question
My authentication (signup/login) is up and running in my app, now I need to implement an authorisation system. Its not going to be a complex one. One admin (me) and then normal members and premium members. Any tutorials or tips on a simple way to get this running? Thanks. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

OT: Subversion repository layout
Hi, I''m trying to get a nice repository structure happening and was wondering what other people like to use. I''m about ready to publish a rails app. This app now lives in myapp/trunk When this app goes live I will need to freeze it so I will copy myapp/trunk to myapp/tags/release-1.0 (right?) I also would like to get going on a new version which will break the current

Ruby at O''Reilly Rough Cuts
Not sure if this is old news or not, but it would appear that both the Ruby Cookbook and a Rails book are now available for purchase at O''Reilly Rough Cuts (something akin to PragProg''s beta book program): http://rubyurl.com/nHz http://my.safaribooksonline.com/?mode=roughcuts&srchtext=ROUGHCUTS I haven''t tried them yet, but it definitely seems worth checking out.

Any news on the rSpec books?
I admit it, when it comes to rSpec, I''m lazy. I''ve made a few feeble attempts to use it, but for once I''m waiting for a book-length treatment. At least two books were announced, I think. Can anyone in the know please report on their progress? Thanks Michael -- Michael Schuerig mailto:michael at schuerig.de http://www.schuerig.de/michael/

Upgrade to 4.5 error (SLES 12 SP1)

linux install of RR
Hi. I''ve installed ruby, gems, rails into a user directory according to the installation instructions (for linux). I haven''t setup any path information nor setup any symlinks or any compilation options. When I try rails, I find that the system accesses controllers but that the corresponding views are not displayed. I wonder if there is something that I forgot to configure

geo-replication
Hi again, I have been testing and reading up on other solutions and just wanted to check if my ideas are ok. I have been looking at dispersed volumes and wonder if there are any problems running replicated-distributed cluster on the master node and a dispersed-distributed cluster on the slave side of a geo-replication. Second thought, running disperesed on both sides, is that a problem (Master:

Rails: Good for everything?
My department is in a battle right now. We have some very por PHP people and very pro Rails people. The php guys make a good argument that Rails is good for new applications where we dictate the DB schema. PHP shines where we go into an existing application, or a new one where multiple databases or possibly legacy systems are involved. The PHP guys basically say Rails is good for Web 2.0

New version of AWDwR
Folks: I''ve uplaoded the B1.05 version of AWDwR. It fixes a number of reported errata (and a few that weren''t reported :), and adds two significant changes: 1. It now uses the new Active Record decimal -> BigDecimal conversion. I''ve personally been waiting for this for a long time, and I''m really happy it''s now part of core. However,
