Ruby at O''Reilly Rough Cuts
Not sure if this is old news or not, but it would appear that both the Ruby Cookbook and a Rails book are now available for purchase at O''Reilly Rough Cuts (something akin to PragProg''s beta book program): http://rubyurl.com/nHz http://my.safaribooksonline.com/?mode=roughcuts&srchtext=ROUGHCUTS I haven''t tried them yet, but it definitely seems worth checking out. -Pawel

Agile Web Development book - version 4.0 released
...n the list, but the Agile Web Development with Rails book is now at version 4.0, for those of us who bought the PDF from the Prag Prog site. Just a few typos and corrections from the looks of it, but can''t hurt to get the latest. You can reorder the book for download at: http://books.pragprog.com/titles/rails/reorder Cheers, Tom

Developing Facebook Platform Applications with Rails is now available in Beta at http://www.pragprog.com/titles/mmfacer It walks you through creating a Facebook application with Facebooker, all the way from setup to handling large number of users. Thank all of you for asking questions on this list. I did my best to answer all of them in the book. Expect to see more chapters shortly, as inf...

How to copy between databases?
I want to copy data from one database to another using rails. But, it seems that rails only will talk to one database at a time. Is there a way around this? Accessing Constants Declared in Helper Modules
Hello all, I''m having great trouble accessing a constant declared in a helper for one of my view templates. I am trying to create a grouped selection list based on a predefined set of values. Rather than declare this set of values in the view, I wanted to put it in the helper that automatically gets included for the view. Unfortunately, it doesn''t seem to work. All methods

Fwd: Rapid GUI Development with QtRuby
...st of a series of short, PDF-only books. This one is on qtRuby. It would be great to have something like this for wxRuby. I don''t think wxRuby is quite ready to this (yet), but I thought I''d plant the idea. Testing and Mocking
Can I second this question? Could someone provide a simple example of how they set up a functional test for a controller that uses facebooker?? Do you have to copy a lot of stuff from rails_integration_test.rb ? I guess that since we don''t have a test facebook to test against, we have to stub out a lot of stuff right? --simon > Hi, I''m wondering if folks would care

New version of AWDwR
Folks: I''ve uplaoded the B1.05 version of AWDwR. It fixes a number of reported errata (and a few that weren''t reported :), and adds two significant changes: 1. It now uses the new Active Record decimal -> BigDecimal conversion. I''ve personally been waiting for this for a long time, and I''m really happy it''s now part of core. However,

Staff Manager tutorial from "Prototype and script.aculo.us" by Christophe Porteneuve
Hi there, Taking my first steps in Prototype and reading this very helpful book by Christophe Porteneuve. There''s an interesting tutorial (Chpt. 7) on making a tree to organize staff members. The problem is that I can''t make it working in IE. In Firefox it works just great. Did anybody fiddle with it? Maybe somebody has already figured it out. IE says

problem
Hi -- I just got your book FXRuby and am trying to get it working on Leopard -- I had no problems getting it to work on Vista or Ubuntu but when I tried to follow the post on your blog for Leopard I got the following error -- I don''t know enough about Leopard or Ruby for that matter to troubleshoot this myself so I was hoping someone may have run into this before and can offer a solution.

Spec'ing a block
Hi folks How would you spec something like this: as_user username do FileUtils.chmod_R 0755, "#{directory}/*" end Where as_user fires off a new process (and set uid to username). It seems that this won''t catch FileUtils.chmod_R: FileUtils.should_receive(:chmod_R).with(0755, "#{@domain.directory}/*") I guess that is because it is passed in the block
