Finding instrumented code
Hi all, So I just took Sun''s dtrace class this week and one thing that piqued my interest was the instrumenting of a process''s instructions and how to find the original instructions. (I''m looking around at resources for learning SPARC assembly to help me when using mdb for analysis, though I vaguely remember pieces from a grad school compiler theory class a...

lme, lmer, convergence
Hello, all, I am running some simulations to estimate power for a complicated epidemiological study, and am using lme and lmer to get these estimates. I have to run a few thousand iterations, and once in a great while, an iteration will create fake data such that the model won't converge. I see from Google searches that this is not an uncommon situation. My question: is there a way to

Clarification on the appropriate idmap settings for a standalone server
...s a standalone server in a testing environment. The documentation here indicates that winbind / the idmap facility is of little or no use on a standalone server: https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/idmapper.html#id2604490 Is this still the case in Samba4? My curiosity was piqued because I keep getting the following error message "winbindd: sam_rids_to_names: possible deadlock - trying to lookup SID [SID]". My server has the following parameters in [global] in the smb.conf (which was default for the appliance): [global] server max protocol = SMB2_24 encr...

[ASan][Windows] Interceptor function type not compatible with intercepted function
Hi, I triggered a build failure on a Windows-sanitizer by making the sanity checking in `ASAN_INTERCEPT_FUNC` a bit stricter. My best guess is that the type of the defined interceptor is not compatible (in C++ typing terms) with the “real” function. This seems to be the case for the following 2 functions: CreateThread “no conversion”: From: 'DWORD (__cdecl *)(void * ,

[LLVMdev] code-owner sporks
...r everyone. It's only a waste of time if your workflow is entirely synchronous with patch review. Most of us have a number of things that we can work on, so letting a patch chill for a while on the list isn't a big deal because we just go on and do something else. Also, this situation has piqued my interest and so I am researching the issues involved. Could you give me some links (or thread titles) for dropped patches, so that I can take a look at them and try to puzzle out how the development process ended up in them being dropped? Nothing big, maybe 5 or so is probably enough. Thanks. -...

Microsoft Monad Shell
Not sure if this has application for R but Microsoft's new Monad shell is now in public beta. I have not looked at it myself but I wonder if the tools that are required to create Windows R packages could be replaced by this? ---- The Monad team has recently released Monad Beta 3.1 to Microsoft Download Center and we're working diligently towards a release of Monad 1.0! UDP Constant IP Identification Field Fingerprinting Vulnerability

I understand WRT false positive flagging. And that is exactly what I have done. However, the PCI DSS report piqued my interest in this matter and I thought to satisfy my curiosity. The other stuff flagged in the report seemed a little far-fetched to me. At least the explanation of why they were flagged did. As none of them affect our PCI status I have no interest in the rest. This one however I was previously...

Symbian Softphone
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I was wondering if anyone has found a IAX or SIP client for the Sony Ericsson P900 phone - there seems to be some stuff available for Symbian 60 phones but I haven't been able to find anything for Symbian UIQ phones like the P900 and P800. Cross-Domain Data with Rack and Rails -- http://bit.ly/BNw6T
A big theme from RailsConf a few weeks ago was the arrival of Rack in Rails as of version 2.3. The first topic that seemed to pique developer interest was Rails Metal -- especially the speed bump of using a lighter stack for high volume URIs. While this is a useful upgrade to Rails, the architectural shift provided by Rack brings new flexibility. Read more about the value of mounting Rack
