[PATCH RFC 00/15] Zero ****s, hugload of hugs <3

Slideshow beta
Ok, I finally got the slideshow code to a state worth showing it off. The site is a very rough cut of a site I''m building for my wife''s photography, so ignore the unfinished design for now :) http://rachel.kathihill.com/ To see the ajax version, go to: http://rachel.kathihill.com/?ajax=1 To randomize the order the images show: http://rachel.kathihill.com/?random=1 To change

Any CMS for Ruby on Rails..
Well i want to make a photography community site on the lines of www.gfxartist.com , www.terminus1525.ca, www.phirebrush.com Where the community votes for every subbmission from a artist and can comment (like a forum).. Now gfxartist has used probably SMARTY,php, and their own CMS. terminus used Drupal,Gallery 2.Some one tells me that this combo is heavy on resources and slows down sites.

Confused about zfs recv -d, apparently
First, it fails because the destination directory doesn''t exist. Then it fails because it DOES exist. I really expected one of those to work. So, what am I confused about now? (Running 2008.11) # zpool import -R /backups/bup-ruin bup-ruin # zfs send -R "zp1 at bup-20090222-054457UTC" | zfs receive -dv bup-ruin/fsfs/zp1" cannot receive: specified fs (bup-ruin/fsfs/zp1)

Best option for my home file server?
I was recently evaluating much the same question but with out only a single pool and sizing my disks equally. I only need about 500GB of usable space and so I was considering the value of 4x 250GB SATA Drives versus 5x 160GB SATA drives. I had intended to use an AMS 5 disk in 3 5.25" bay hot-swap backplane. http://www.american-media.com/product/backplane/sata300/sata300.html I priced

photoshop cs2 runs, but seems laggy
I just got photoshop cs2 installed and running on my system using 'sh winetricks corefonts vcrun6' and while it runs and all, it seems very choppy. I've been reading about how wine 1.0 came out with the specific purpose of photoshop running on wine/linux, and that even google has been funding this endeavor, so I would think that by wine 1.1.23 it would be running quite well. To be

Mac OS X version of Wine should be official
I have a new Mac OS X system that I want to run some games on. I don't want to have to buy Windows just to run a few games (which is the reason for the switch, as well as for doing photography). I downloaded the beta version for Mac OS and it runs fantastic. No problems, good templates (although there could be more), and easy of use make it great and a joy to use. I don't understand why

ZFS Newbie question
I?ve spend a few hours reading through the forums and wiki and honestly my head is spinning. I have been trying to study up on either buying or building a box that would allow me to add drives of varying sizes/speeds/brands (adding more later etc) and still be able to use the full space of drives (minus parity? [not sure if I got the terminology right]) with redundancy. I have found the ?all in

Setting VNC console port in virt-install
Using Centos 5.2 with Xen. I'm making a group of nodes behind an LVS load-director to perform computing services. Those nodes are only accessible from the LVS nodes (I'm using LVS NAT mode). Actually it's Xen virtual servers on the physical nodes behind the LVS boxes that I'm mostly concerned with. When you create a guest with virt-install, there's a vnc param and a vncport

Strange document loss
Hi all :-) I''m experiencing strange document loss with Ferret 0.11.4 / Ruby 1.8.4. The index handles around 3000 documents, and sometimes during a query_update operation, the delete is done but not the add. That''s very random and happens after a lot of queries (many K). I''ve tried to look into Ferret''s C code, everything looks like going well, the add *LOOKS

ZFS + OpenSolaris for home NAS?
On Wed, January 7, 2009 04:29, Peter Korn wrote: > Decision #4: file system layout > I''d like to have ZFS root mirrored. Do we simply use a portion of the existing disks for this, or add two disks just for root? Use USB-2 flash as those 2 disks? And where does swap go? The default install in Osol 0811 (which is what I just upgraded my home NAS to) gives you a zfs root pool that

Finding DHCP IP of guest system
If I can log in to the guest through the console, I can of course find out what IP DHCP has assigned it. If I configure a static IP I can of course connect to the system there (if it runs services, the firewall allows it, all the usual caveats). Does there happen to be any way to determine from dom0 what IPs are participating in the network and which guests they belong to? (I'm configuring

xm console -- what should I get?
If I type "xm console 6", say (when I have a virtual machine 6 running), what should I get? The documentation seems to indicate that I should get something that behaves like a telnet to a serial console. What I actually get is a connection that might show me a couple of lines of output that do look like they belonged on the console, but doesn't seem to accept any input (except that

ZFS replication send/receive errors out
My full backup script errorred out the last two times I ran it. I''ve got a full Bash trace of it, so I know exactly what was done. There are a moderate number of snapshots on the zp1 pool, and I''m intending to replicate the whole thing into the backup pool. After housekeeping, I take make a current snapshot on the data pool (zp1). Since this is a new full backup, I then

What is L2ARC write pattern?
Hello all, A few months ago I saw a statement that L2ARC writes are simplistic in nature, and I got the (mis?)understanding that some sort of ring buffer may be in use, like for ZIL. Is this true, and the only metric of write-performance important for L2ARC SSD device is the sequential write bandwidth (and IOPS)? In particular, there are some SD/MMC/CF cards for professional photography and
