Slideshow beta
Ok, I finally got the slideshow code to a state worth showing it off. The site is a very rough cut of a site I''m building for my wife''s photography, so ignore the unfinished design for now :) http://rachel.kathihill.com/ To see the ajax version, go to: http://rachel.kathihill.com/?ajax=1 To randomize the order the images show: http://rachel.kathihill.com/?random=1 To change the transition effect: http://rachel.kathihill.com/?effect=random...

Best option for my home file server?
I was recently evaluating much the same question but with out only a single pool and sizing my disks equally. I only need about 500GB of usable space and so I was considering the value of 4x 250GB SATA Drives versus 5x 160GB SATA drives. I had intended to use an AMS 5 disk in 3 5.25" bay hot-swap backplane. http://www.american-media.com/product/backplane/sata300/sata300.html I priced

photoshop cs2 runs, but seems laggy
I just got photoshop cs2 installed and running on my system using 'sh winetricks corefonts vcrun6' and while it runs and all, it seems very choppy. I've been reading about how wine 1.0 came out with the specific purpose of photoshop running on wine/linux, and that even google has been funding this endeavor, so I would think that by wine 1.1.23 it would be running quite well. Mac OS X version of Wine should be official
I have a new Mac OS X system that I want to run some games on. I don't want to have to buy Windows just to run a few games (which is the reason for the switch, as well as for doing photography). I downloaded the beta version for Mac OS and it runs fantastic. No problems, good templates (although there could be more), and easy of use make it great and a joy to use. I don't understand why Wine hasn't made it official yet.

ZFS Newbie question
I?ve spend a few hours reading through the forums and wiki and honestly my head is spinning. I have been trying to study up on either buying or building a box that would allow me to add drives of varying sizes/speeds/brands (adding more later etc) and still be able to use the full space of drives (minus parity? [not sure if I got the terminology right]) with redundancy. I have found the ?all in

Strange document loss
Hi all :-) I''m experiencing strange document loss with Ferret 0.11.4 / Ruby 1.8.4. The index handles around 3000 documents, and sometimes during a query_update operation, the delete is done but not the add. That''s very random and happens after a lot of queries (many K). I''ve tried to look into Ferret''s C code, everything looks like going well, the add *LOOKS

What is L2ARC write pattern?
...in nature, and I got the (mis?)understanding that some sort of ring buffer may be in use, like for ZIL. Is this true, and the only metric of write-performance important for L2ARC SSD device is the sequential write bandwidth (and IOPS)? In particular, there are some SD/MMC/CF cards for professional photography and such, that can do pretty good bursts at writes, and may be okay (better than HDD) at random reads of the cached blocks. Are such cards fit for L2ARC uses? One idea I have is that a laptop which only has a single HDD slot, often has SD/MMC cardreader slots. If populated with a card for L...
