lme: how to extract the variance components?
Dear all, Here is the question: For example, using the "petrol" data offered with R. pet3.lme<-lme(Y~SG+VP+V10+EP,random=~1|No,data=petrol) pet3.lme$sigma gives the residual StdDev. But I can't figure out how to extract the "(intercept) StdDev", although it is in the print out if I do "summary(pet3.lme)"...

Request: Documentation of formulae
In working through material on p.272 of MASS (4th ed.), I came across the following model formula: pet1.lm <- lm(Y ~ No/EP - 1, Petrol) I was at a loss to understand the use of "/" until I looked in "An Introduction [!] to R," where I found the explanation. My request is that more complete material on model formulae be lifted from "Introduction to R" (or elsewhere) and put into the main online help...

Error in Cut command - 'x' must be numeric?
Hi Everyone I have a data set I want to bucket into deciles. Have been trying (without) success to use cut and using online help to understand my error. Here is my code to read in a few sample rows. I want to then create deciles by this variable > a<-read.csv("c:/temp/petrol.csv",header=TRUE,sep=",") > a tot_rdm_amt 1 40.15 2 332.65 3 533.37 4 225.54 5 503.89 6 161.57 7 266.61 8 100.50 9 268.81 10 593.86 11 306.27 12 303.43 13 308.09 14 802.36 15 271.51 16 479...

Recommended UPS to buy for use with NUT?
I am running a home box (600watt total load, may expand to 800-900) and I need a UPS that can sustain power to that for at least 20 min, but I want as much time as I can get. Does anyone on the list have a similar setup with a UPS that was easy to set up with NUT? Generally speaking, what mfrs. and models are very well supported? Which should I avoid at all costs? I know this seems like

...o check > that they were assembled correctly too. Its about taking personal responsibility for the security of your system(s). Trusting someone else's settings of what THEY think YOUR security should be, is very unwise. It is not car disassembly - it is checking the oil level, the benzin (petrol), the brake fluid, the window washer liquid, the tyre pressures including the 'spare wheel'. Pilots of aircraft do exactly the same. It is called a preflight check. Doing that on a new Centos installation is sensible and, if one cares about security, desirable. -- Regards, Paul. Eng...

TE410P card in an HP-Compaq DL380 G4 server
Hi, Has anyone had success using a TE410P card in an HP-Compaq DL380 G4 server? For me the card is detected fine, but the system just never sees an interrupt from the card. I've tried everything I can think of. The card definitely works. Its Fedora Core, but we also tried a stock 2.6.10 kernel. We tried with and without Hyperthreading, with "noapic", we disabled all the

*** Asterisk Sunday News: Off track with 1.0, moving forward
Thank you very much for all feedback on Asterisk Sunday News! This is the last issue for June. This week I'll go on holiday and will be back with more news in early July. My kids are getting summer leave this week and we'll be visiting the south of England for a while. Another part of Europe that still use their own currency. If you think there's an European standard, you're
