I installed Wine from Synapitc Packet Manager on Ubuntu 7.10. Currently it's version 0.9.58, but I can't wait for binaries and want to compile and install version 0.9.59 from source. Will it break my current installation? Will my programs (Steam, Audiosur, Peggle Extreme) need to be removed and reinstalled? Also, it seems that Ubuntu repository servers are down now, because I can't connect to them or they have no valid data.

When ever I try to run FEAR 2 or Half-Life in Steam the "Preparing to launch" window comes up and then disappears. I assume every game I have will do this same thing, but it takes way to long to install anything in Steam. Both games produce the following output in the terminal: Code: err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered

In 1.1.5 the sound/music in games played allright. Since 1.1.6 it skips badly - plays for a couple of seconds, then stops for half a second, then plays again, then skips and so on. Happens on every game on Steam - Team Fortress 2, Everyday Shooter, Peggle Extreme - and also without Steam - Icy Tower. I have Razer Barracuda AC-1 sound card. I've found that in Winecfg when I choose Alsa driver it says "HDA Intel" under the Mixers, instead of C-Media CMI8788 (which is the name of the chipset). I guess HDA Intel is the sound card chipset...
