x86_64 rpms
I have just loaded up CentOS4.1 on a PE1850 with twin Intel x86_64's.
When I came to clean out those packages I didn't want (because some always
creep in however careful you are), apart from those with dependencies, I
notice a lot of cases where there are two packages of the same name
installed - one clearly an x86 package and one a...

Dell portability
Howdy,
I built an LXC container with an "image" of asterisk 11.18 precompiled
and installed. It runs fine on the dev platform, which is a Dell R320
running Ubuntu 14.04LTS. I shutdown the container, tarred it up, and
untarred on a Dell PE1850, also running Ubuntu 14.04LTS. The container
itself is Ubuntu 14.04LTS. Both platforms as far as I know are amd64.
The container boots fine on the 1850, but trying to run asterisk
segfaults. The source tree was still in the container, so I just did a
make clean; make; make install. It now r...

Which PE models are they? We have quite a few different Dell PowerEdge
models running 24x7 in the test lab, and don''t see any problems. (I know
that we have PE1850/2650/2850 and some 4 socket boxes too).

IO causing major performance issues
...9;s experiences are WRT systems becoming
unresponsive (unable to ssh in, etc) for brief periods of time when
a large amount of IO is being performed. It's really starting to
cause a problem for us. We're on Dell PowerEdge 1955 blades - but this same
issue has caused us problems on PE1950, PE1850, PE1750 servers.
We're running Centos 4.5 right now. I know Centos 5 includes ionice, more
io scheduler/elevator selections like deadlock/etc. Perhaps that would
fix this issue. We're running the latest PERC firmware.
The specific issue I'm referring to at this point is on a system r...

Old (really old) programs under CentOS.
...(yes, that's over 7 years!)) with the libc5 libs loaded.? The server hardware is just about ready to fly apart, and I need to see about running this on more modern hardware.? Of course, they already have bought the replacement server, a Dell PowerEdge 1850.? No way RH 5.2 is going to load on a PE1850 with the megaraid PERC 4e/Si.
Now, I've thought about a couple of possibilities:
1.)?? QEMU or VMware or similar running a RH5.2 instance under CentOS 4;
2.)?? Running a libc5 setup on CentOS 4.? I'd rather do this, as security fixes would at least be available.
Going back to a RH5 mach...

Reducing echo on FXS port
Hello everybody,
I am sorry to bring this up again if this kind of echo issue has ever discussed.
Phone2 in below call path experiences quite annoying echo:
Phone1 --> FXS (TDM400P) --> Asterisk --> SIP GW --> PSTN --> Phone2
It is annoying as on phone2, we can hear the whole words we say with the level of maybe 25% of the original sound. I can reduce the echo to maximum with

strange VLAN / domu behavior
Hi there!
I am currently setting up a Xen box on 3 VLans, each VLan interface is in a
bridge and currently, dom0 is reachable from on of these and is performing
great.
My only problem is with domU : it can ping anything but it won''t work for
TCP and UDP protocol UNLESS I do a manual tcpdump on my vlan interface.
Bridges on dom0:

Starting From Scratch
Hello all:
For fun, I am learning about Asterisk, and trying to get Asterisk
working at my house. I installed Asterisk@Home. It seems to be
functioning fine. I installed a couple of softphones, and have them
registered with Asterisk. I actually work for a CLEC, and I have
registered my Asterisk box with SER (which I don't begin to understand
yet) at the office. In order to try to
