New Rails Site: Wordie
My latest stupid web trick, built, with love, in Rails: http://wordie.org Make lists of words. See who else likes the same words. Basically, it''s a dating site. Built on thanksgiving while half-watching football and launched yesterday. In other words, half-baked, but I thought some of you might find it mildly amusing. Hi All. I have a problem on one of our Citrix boxes. And at this point the pastel evolution client''s connection will timeout to the SQL server. His happens very erratically. I

Difference between smbclient&smbmount
Hi there, We're currently having problems mounting share from a windows server 2003 machine. The thing that I find surprising is about smbclient : in fact, I'm allowed to browse the share with the command smbclient : # smbclient //adoc/pastel -U mathus%9g8e Domain=[MIPIH] OS=[Windows Server 2003 3790] Server=[Windows Server 2003 5.2] smb: \> And when I try to mount this share with

levelplot and source() problems
I have been using levelplot but have had trouble calling it inside functions - something seems to go wrong when it's not called directly from the R command prompt. Simplest reproducible example: $ R --vanilla > library(lattice) > levelplot(matrix(1:4,2,2)) - This gives a nice plot in soothing pastel colors. Now, with a file lptest.r containing 2 lines: library(lattice)

R-alpha: Colors
...larger change. I would like to make the color table, user definable. To do this there needs to be a function palette(name, value) where "name" could be used to select one on a number of standard built-in palettes (e.g. "default", "heat", "terrain", "pastels" etc) and (if name was not specified, "value" could be a character vector of color specifications (of length less than or equal to 256?). Either names (e.g. "red", "lightblue" ...) or by rgb values (e.g "#FF00FF") could be used in the vector. The func...

setting trellis auto.key color values
...main = "Alligator Nesting Performance", ylab= "Mean HSI", auto.key = list("top", columns=3, col=c(3:5)) this script creates the graph nicely, with the qualification that the color for the key titles are the correct, but the filling colors are default pastels. Where do I change them ? Windows XP with R 2.8.1 Thank you. Steve Steve Friedman Ph. D. CGIwithR and visible output of 'invisible(capture.output(library(...)))'
Dear alltogether, I want to use CGIwithR in conjunction with R2HTML. A small example called 'test.R': ##### #! /usr/bin/R invisible(capture.output(library(R2HTML))) HTML(summary(as.numeric(scanText(formData$numbers))), file=stdout()) ##### The script gets its input via 'CGIwithR.cgi' and contains the variable "numbers." The 'HTML' output (-> summary() in

III Jornadas de Usuarios de R (Madrid - 17, 18 Noviembre 2011)
Hola.

Registering scripts using WINE
Hi all, I am trying to install Caseware Working Papers 2008 (a standard audit program used by auditors to create financial statements) on Ubuntu Netbook 10.4 using WINE. The program itself has been installed successfully. In order to make full use of the program, templets also have to be installed using their own extraction (*.cwp). These templets install using scripts that is registered in the

CentOS 6.4: sound not working
Good morning, I've got a new system with a fresh 6.4 installation. I didn't check if the sound worked at first but I know it doesn't now. :) The system board is an ASRock Extreme6. The Specs say it has a Realtek ALC1150 audio chipset and 7.1 channels. I'm running KDE and an Nvidia X driver (I need the video performance of this driver - sorry about that). The System Tools for

virtualization on the desktop a myth, or a reality?
I am busy setting up some XEN servers on a SAN for high availability and Cloud Computing, and thought it could be cool to setup virtualization on a CentOS 5.5 Desktop, running on a Core i3 + 4GB RAM, and use the SAN's storage to see if it could actually be worth my while to replicate a Cloud Computing setup in the office. And, cause I got a bit bored waiting for a few RAID-sets to finish

Merbivore.com - Mockups
There''s been some discussion on the IRC channel about getting a site for Merb going. Since the culture around the project is pretty casual, I figured I''d just throw a few ideas together, see what you guys think. So, firstly here are three example pages, just to show off the general look and feel. http://mr-eel.com/tmp/merb/01_frontpage.gif

Bug in xYplot() with method = 'filled bands'
Dear r-helpers, I have been bitten by a cryptic comment in the help page for xYplot(). Here is some code from Madeline Bauer, one of the authors, which is essentailly the code on the help page for xYplot(): # This example uses the summarize function in Hmisc to # compute the median and outer quartiles. The outer quartiles are # displayed using "filled bands" set.seed(111) dfr

Bug in R graphics device (PR#7271)
Full_Name: Hem Nalini Morzaria Luna Version: 2.00.00 OS: Windows XP Submission from: (NULL) (128.104.98.229) When using the plot(), when no previous graphics devices are open, the text in the GUI disappears. Even if I close the graphics device I can't see the cursor. But it is still there, because I can type another plot() command. I had to close R and open it again for the GUI to return to

[LLVMdev] LLVM Parallel IR
I'm part of a research group at MIT looking to create an extension of LLVM that inherently allows one to nicely code a parallel loop. Most parallel frameworks tend to take the body of a parallel loop and stick it inside of a function for the parallel runtime to call when appropriate. However, this makes optimizations significantly more difficult as most compiler optimizations tend to be

Help needed: strange issue with share mapping at logon
Hello all, I've run into an issue while migrating a client's Samba PDC from Debian 3.x to OpenSuSE 10.3, have been beating my head against it for over a week, and am now turning to the mailing list for help. We're running Samba 3.0.26a-3-1478-SUSE-SL10.3 authenticating against OpenLDAP 2.3.37. Integration of Samba and OpenLDAP works, and importing the 2000+ existing user accounts

Suggested color schemes for points, not regions?
I have seen a couple of posts about color schemes like those at the ColorBrewer site. Most recently: http://geography.uoregon.edu/datagraphics/color_scales.htm These color schemes can work very well for regions (bars, polygons, images, etc.) but are not very suitable for points and/or lines. Is anyone aware of research/suggestions for a color scheme to use for scatter plots? I've looked at
