Problems with passwords (PR#20895) !!!!
Hello,
I reported problem PR#20895.
So - i use encrypted passwords. All new unix users are appended to
smbpasswd with one script.
Every new user is getting a line like this:
s1077347:2006:NO PASSWORDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:NO
PASSWORDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:[NU ]:LCT-00000000:user name
The parameter null passwords is NO. Every user who has not set their
password can login into Samba NT Domain from NT ws with no password or
with any password. And now i discovered that users who has already SET

I am sure I am missing something simple here...

XP Clients joining samba domain.
...ba.
A) In the logs there is always this
[2002/10/24 07:12:43.415583, 1] smbd/password.c:pass_check_smb(545)
Couldn't find user 'nobody' in passdb.
But that dosen't affect operation for machines which are on the domain
peoperly.
B) The smbpasswd file contains.
machinename$:515:NO PASSWORDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:NO
PASSWORDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX [NW ]:LCT-3D B65944:
C) The only way I have fixed this in the past is to reinstall xp from
scratch on the client machine. Something which I really do not want to do.
And it's no guarantee it will fix the problem.
If you need any more information please...

samba-3.0.23d, smbpasswd, and "NO PASSWORD" behaviour
We've recently started using samba-3.0.23d on Mandriva 2007.0 linux
systems and we've noticed a change in behaviour of smbpasswd when a
non-root user tries to change their password from "NO PASSWORD".
Here's an example smbpasswd entry (all one line):
testuser:12345:NO PASSWORDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:
NO PASSWORDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:[NU ]:LCT-00000000:
The possibly related settings in our smb.conf are:
encrypt passwords = yes
security = user
unix password sync = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *password:* %n\n *password* %n\n *successfully*...

Could someone please point me in a direction where I can start looking,

samba 2.2.3 PDC and win2k

the web, but I'm stuck with a problem:
when I try to join the domain, the machine$ gets properly added to the

smbpasswd command won't work
I am trying to setup a /etc/smbpasswd file for my users. I use the
following command to create the /etc/smbpasswd file
cat /etc/passwd | ./mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/smbpasswd
Redhat 7.1, samba 2.2.5
I thought that users could log onto the linux system and simply type the
command:
smbpasswd
and it would ask for the new password. But it asks for an OLD password
which never works. I thought
