Plain Speex, or GStreamer?
I wasn't able to find anything in the list archives, please forgive me if this question has been asked before... Our app needs to support multiple media types, so GStreamer would seem to be the obvious choice. However, voice quality is paramount for us. Are there any disadvantages to using the Speex plugin for GStreamer as opposed to directly coding to the Speex API? In

Macros in R
Dear members, I have started to work with R recently and there is one thing which I could not solve so far. I don't know how to define macros in R. The problem at hand is the following: I want R to go through a list of 1:54 and create the matrices input1, input2, input3 up to input54. I have tried the following: for ( i in 1:54) { input[i] = matrix(nrow = 1, ncol = 107)

use pssh to restart a service
Hey Gordon, Sorry, man my bad! Disabling the tty requirement for my sudo user does indeed work. I had a type-o in the sudoers file, and when I corrected it, my sudo command via pssh started working! #pssh -i -h es_list "/bin/sudo /bin/systemctl restart elasticsearch; sleep 10" [1] 20:31:32 [SUCCESS] bluethundr at es3.jokefire.com Stderr: sudo: sorry, you must have a tty to run sudo

EXT3 Corruption Question
Greetings Everyone, A group in my office is designing/integrating what I would loosly label as an "embedded system". In that, it performs a dedicated task and is not a general purpose workstation or server. It operates in a harsh environment, particularly a questionable power environment and they are extremely concerned about inadvertent shutdown and recovery. They were totally

failed: Too many levels of symbolic links
All, My dovecot install works great except for one error I keep seeing this in my logs. The folder has 7138 messages in it. I am informed the user they needed to reduce the number of messages in the folder and believe this will fix the problem. My question is about where the problem lies. Is the problem related to an internal limit with Dovecot v2.0.15 or with my Debian (3.1.0-1-amd64)?

Problem with table
R version 2.14.0, started with --vanilla > table(c(1,2,3,4,NA), exclude=2, useNA='ifany') 1 3 4 <NA> 1 1 1 2 This came from a local user who wanted to remove one particular response from some tables, but also wants to have NA always reported for data checking purposes. I don't think the above is what anyone would want. PS. This is on a

Using glusterfs with an export directory on an non-POSIX attr enabled FS
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Dear all, I am trying to setup a replicated volume to serve (in a load-balanced setup) static content. Since we are talking about small sized files (thumbnails) that do not take too much space, one ideea is to set that up in RAM (using /dev/shm mountpoint on CentOS). The main problem is that if I define a replicated volume using glusterfs, and I

cvs bulid breaks on slackware
cvs code from this morning (about 9am PST) breaks on slackware 7.1 w/ gcc 2.95.2.1 with an undefined reference to session_setup_sia in session.o. this seems to be the culprit here: #ifdef HAVE_OSF_SIA #else /* HAVE_OSF_SIA */ session_setup_sia(pw->pw_name, ttyname); since i have no idea what that's trying to accomplish (and seems to be a bit backwards to me from looking

rsync over ssh - possible attack vectors
Hello everybody! First my setup: I connect from Debian Lenny to Ubuntu Karmic with a command like: user1 at localserver:$ rsync -rtcve ssh user1 at remoteserver:/.../ /local/.../ (using default versions of ssh and rsync in the vendor repos, ssh with password authentication) As far as I understand if localserver got compromised an attacker could read the password and then get full access to
