can FXS ports on TDM400P provide Battery Reversal or CPC
Hello, I want to use Asterisk PBX in front of my old, legacy PBX. The legacy PBX can be outfitted with caller-ID and is already able to handle Calling Party Control Signal Detection (this is a Panasonic KX-TD1232 Super Hybrid PBX. My question is how would one enable Asterisk to control the TDM400P/FXS port to provide to the /FXO CO port on the legacy PBX, support for proper answer supervisi...

(OT) Anyone Ever Use http://shopfort1.com as a Broker
...ve them a BTN that goes to an IVR or something. They call no matter which box you click as far as "contact me now" "contact me later" "just window shopping". I selected window shopping but they called immediately. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about this outfit. Quoted prices are really good for my needs. Much cheaper than the broker I have always used in the past. They will not tell you the carrier until you speak with a sales person but "It's all Verizon (tm)". Thanks, Steve Totaro http://www.asteriskhelpdesk.com

C7, encryption, and clevis
> > so if it would work, replace shortname with short and short1? With all of this hokey-pokey surrounding licensing and mac addresses, I wonder if this outfit is actually still in compliance with the terms of their license for this software, whatever it may be? If the software licensed to run only on Machine X and Machine X has now been junked and replace by Machine Y, then isn't the solution to obtain a license for the software for Machine Y or be...

Looking for company behind serverhostingcenter.com and directhostingcenter.com for causing problems on dir.xiph.org
...s I manage to eventually reach someone or if it's just a single instance, I blacklist it. Blacklisting actually has the positive effect, that their error.log will contain a sensible error message, if they bother to read it. Their listing was broken to begin with. The problem with stream-hosting outfits is, that quite often they will host a dozen or more servers on one IPv4 address and associated FQDN. This means, that if I can't reach such a company, I am forced to pull the plug on *ALL* their clients. I'm rather reluctant to do that, as it will hit innocent bystanders who's only fau...

OT: workstation recommends: Thinkmate?
I'm looking to buy a new workstation, and it looks like Thinkmate makes what I need -- their vsx "virtually silent" variety. I hestitate because I wasn't happy with a laptop I bought a few years ago from a small outfit that sold Linux boxes exclusively. Does anyone have experience with Thinkmate, and in particular, the VSX line? If the later, is it really quiet. I run Centos on four machines now, three of which are Dells, and I'm hoping to do better. The Dell T5400 is close to what I want, but I get more fo...

Very Cool.........Asterisk Made Wired Magazine
...r number" in the Dec 2004 issue of WIRED magazine mentions Asterisk PBX (on p.100). The article is about phone phreaks hijacking cell phones with Bluetooth technology along with spoofing CID to pull some clandestine hacks on the PSTN. Anyhow, Asterisk is mentioned as the PBX of choice for an outfit: Telephreaks.org out of Florida that has built their own free VoIP service. Quotes: "Slestak, Da Beave, and GiD are the crew behind Florida-based Telephreaks.org, a free VoIP service that they've built to run on a roll-your-own, open source private branch exchange (PBX) system called Ast...

new laptop: DVD or Blu-ray
One of the build options for a laptop I'm looking at buying is DVD vs Blu-Ray. I've never used Blue-ray before, so is there some compelling reason, as a Linux guy, to want to get Blu-ray?

Dial out problems with Digium TDM400P card.
I recently purchased a Asterisk Developer's Kit (TDM) and now have it outfitted with 2 FXO modules and 2 FXS modules. I'm not using the X100P modem card that came with the kit. I'm having problems with dialing out on my POTS line. Successful dial out is intermittent. About 50% of the time the call goes through. The other 50% it is dialing the wrong number. ( I can...

"throwing out the old": does Rails really not support...
Frankly I''m losing tolerance for the MS "stack." And I''m intrigued by Rails. But in my outfit I''m not only the web person, but also the application person and the DBA. So when I read that Rails doesn''t want to handle things like "compound keys" I blew right by those claims, thinking, "no way." But before I go deeper, I should ask: does Rails really...
