How to set a relationship with a value from a selection list
I realize this is probably a very basic problem but I''m developing my
first rails app and running into this problem.
I''m trying to write a photoblog application. I have a photo table and an
album table. Photo has a to-one relationship to Album. Photo.album_id =>
Album.id
In my view for photo I have a selection list that''s populated with all
the available albums.

Fade Anything Technique (FAT)
Has anyone used the built in FAT (Fade Anything Technique) that exists in 0.11.1
of Rails? I could not find anything in the documentation so I was wondering if
anyone has any code snippets on how they used it?
Thanks for your help.

Acts_as_taggable pluralize
I am implementing a messaging system, which requires broadcast to group
feature.
Instead of a relatively clunky habtm group structure, I am using tags.
Form a usability standpoint, it would be helpful to avoid redundant
tags. Like, friend vs friends OR client vs. clients.
Is it practical to filter tags, before entry, to avoid duplicate tags
like plural vs. singular?

Rails book has a page at Pragmatic Programmers
I noticed a pointer to this in some RSS feed today.
"Agile Web Development with Rails", release date July 4, 2005.

Once you''ve got an ISBN and a title, you''re halfway there. :-) How soon
can we pre-order?

POP secure access??
Hi, I'm looking for a solution to access pop mails (sendmail in linux)
securely. Most of the access would be from window clients (outlook express
etc). Is there a way to encrypt the password (like ssh2) when authenticating
with sendmail? Any info is greatly appereceiated. Thx.
Regards,
Wong.

A collapse/expand tree list?
Does anyone have a working example of a simple collapse/expand tree
list they can share? What I want to replicate is the standard open/
close node behavior, but I''m not sure how to make the parent node
open and close correctly. Something like this:
<ul>
<li>Click me to open and close the sub list
<ul>
<li>One</li>

Table Relationships and ActiveRecord Associations
First of all, I love Ruby on Rails. I have an intermediate
understanding of PHP, JavaScript, DOM and CSS, and that''s the extent of
my programming experience. I''m developing an online game''s web presence
with another colleague. We''re the only two technical guys on a team of
+10 content developers. So, baring all that in mind, here are my
questions with a

Sortable Tables
I''ve put together a little library to provide sortable tables. It is
heavily copied from http://www.kryogenix.org/code/browser/sorttable/
(mentioned in the Wish List) but has been modified to match the same
form as the prototype.js library and add some new features. I still need
to clean up some of the comments, but everything is pretty much working
at this point.

Another question about the tutorial
Hello
After upgrading to ruby 1.8.2, finally got rails to install properly.
Now, following the tutorial, I found a couple of things:
First, apparently rails tries to establish local mysql connections using
"/tmp/mysql.sock"
which mandrake does not use. In mandrake 10.1, this file is located at
"/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock".
The solution is to create a simlink

Howto work with a page not generated by the scaffold ?
I am a newbie Ruby and RoR user. In my tests using the turorials that
I found over the web, everthing is working fine and I am very impressed
about RoR framework.
As I am a Delphi developer, without any web development experience,
There is some thing hard to understando and I didn''t find a tutorial
about this.
I wonder how to create a non-scaffold page ? I have customers,

PROPOSAL: The list needs to fork (desperately).
I''d like to propsoe that the RubyOnRails mailing list forks into three
lists.
PROBLEM:
* The list is getting swamped with traffic, making it hard to use and
even harder to follow.
* Many, many messages get lost, with no reply.
* Due to the overwhelming traffic, it''s hard for beginners to get the
help that they need, since their messages get lost in the shuffle, and

table sorting/manipulation library?
I have a library I''ve developed that I believe is the most flexible and
useful table sorting/striping/row-selecting library around.
Big features:
Single and multiple-level sort
Arbitrary sort criteria (IP address, date, etc.)
Works with table headers that are > 1 row or column large
Stripe tables and/or enable row selecting
Row selecting supports drag-select and SHIFT-click
No extra

Write-up on RoR + XUL Sample
Hi Folks,
Just a quick message saying that, after much demand, I wrote a quick
write-up for the RoR + XUL thing I did yesterday:
http://www.zedshaw.com/blog/programming/ruby_xul.html
It lays out the few simple things I did, has a bit of rant on an
unrelated topic, and other stuff but it''s short still.
On a related note, I''d like to thank "xal" on IRC for reminding

Introduce yourself and your project -- Round 2
On December 14th, 2004 David Heinemeier Hansson sent this to the mailing
list:
I''m seeing a lot of new names on the list. Could
we perhaps do a round of introductions? That would
also be a great first post, if you haven''t had a
chance to contribute yet. The basics should include
your name, your organization, your country and city,

That''s not an issue as such: Rake runs on the database you''ve

I know many people on the list like TextMate for Ruby/Rails editing, so
please don''t flame me for this request. I''m a long-time BBEdit user, I

want to switch.

We''re currently in a kind of weird place though with that 1.0 release:
the Agile Dev book is out in print, sold lots of copies to many eager
buyers, and it certainly assumes the pluralization conventions. It''s
clearly too late for that to change.
