Assigning rank based on total count
Hi all,
I am using ACS micro data (PUMS) with one of the columns as a
factor for the place of birth (POBPF). I would like to create
a column (POBR) containing a rank
corresponding to the place of the observation
in the POBPF rankings. For example,
if a person is from Oregon, Oregon is
the most popular Place of Birth, so each
person who came from Oregon should have a 1
in their POBR. Each row from
California would have POBR 2, etc.
This way I can subset on the most populous sending
places when doing analyses.
For the life of me I can't figure this out....

Need suggestions for nice handling of MANY plots
I have a collection of SAS code that helps people review large
amounts of data on a regular basis. It does this by using SAS's proc
gplot with a "by" statement to prepare as many as 400 (yes, 400)
separate graphs. The code is run on a remote unix host, and displayed
on the reviewer's local desktop using X11 and SAS's display manager.
The process is initiated from a web

cloud-init log to file not enabled in ec2 image oregon ami-5490ed2c (1804_2)
Hello,
Looks like the cloud-init log settings that write out to
/var/log/cloud-init-output.log have been removed in 1804_2, wondering if
this was a mistake or if there was a reason for this?
Thanks,
Steve

WARNING: Break-in attempts
Greetings all,
I''m forwarding a copy of an email I sent reporting attempted
break-ins on my main server, earth.terran.org. I am forwarding this
because I think it is relevant that folks watch for this kind of activity
in their logs to catch people who "try doorknobs" in the middle of the
night. After sending this email, I sent a talk request to the user, who

questions on local customized R distribution CD
Hello all!
I hope this is the right place to post this question.
The Oregon Chapter of ASA is working with local high school teachers as one of its outreaching program.
We hope to use and test R as teaching tools.
So, we think that a menu system (like R commander) with a few packages and a bit simplified installation instruction need to be developed.
The main quest...

UK Rates for RoR Contract work?
Hi all,
I''ve been offered a short-term contract here in the North of England -
around 3 months work, but with RoR I think it will take considerably
less time - and am just curious what market rates were right now.
I''ve been offered a little under ?1k/week which seems ''right'' for a PHP
coder doing this kind of work, but should I be hitting for more, or is

I would like to be able to perform this for many time series so an

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
