Leading in line-wrapped Lattice value and panel labels
Version 2.1.1 Platforms: all What is the trellis parameter (or is there a trellis parameter) to set the leading (the gap between lines) when long axis values labels or panel header labels wrap over more than one line? By default, there is a huge gap between lines, and much looking and experimentation has not revealed to me a suitable parameter to adjust this. Tim C

Google, hard disc drives and R
A recent paper from Google Labs, interesting in many respects, not the least the exclusive use of R for data analysis and graphics (alas not cited in the approved manner): http://labs.google.com/papers/disk_failures.pdf Perhaps some of the eminences grises of the R Foundation could prevail upon Google to make some the data reported in the paper available for inclusion in an R library or two, for

Win2000 - Very Slow opening files from Samba Share
Hello, I hope you can be of some assistance. I am using Samba 2.2.0 on SCO Open Server 5.0.5. I have a number of various clients on the Network eg Win 98 and Win 2000. My Unix Server is a PIII 1000, dual CPU computer with dual Raid 1 (mirroring disks) Samba is working well from the Win 98 Machines. However, from the Win 2000 machines when I try to open an Excel file from one of the Shared

Firewall rules that discriminate by connection duration
I'm interested in crafting firewall rules that throttle connections that have lasted more than a certain amount of time. (Most such connections are P2P traffic, which should be given a lower priority than other connections and may constitute network abuse.) Alas, it doesn't appear that FreeBSD's IPFW can keep tabs on how long a connection has been established. Is there another firewall

Getting vmlinux & initrd.gz file
Hello all, I'm trying to install Gentoo 1.4 rc2 for the first time on my laptop - HP Omnibook 5700ctx, P166, 128 MB RAM which cannot boot from CD-ROM. Apparenty Gentoo doesn't have a boot disk making utility. It's said that I must use tomsrbt or a slackware boot disk but I have none of those. & someone on Gentoo mailing list pointed out that I should try syslinux, Ok,

NT logon scripts "error 59" ?
Is anyone having any problems mapping samba shares in a mixed NT/Samba domain ? I've setup samba as a domain member server using winbind, everything work perfectly except... If i edit my NT logon script and add a "net use j: \\samba\drive" entry in the script, only 90% of the users will map the samba drive, my workstation included, it's a mix, 98/2000 and XP workstation seem to

smbtar
To all, Can SambaTar backup multiple "pc's" at once ? I have 5 Win95 machines with 9 different drive partitions. What would be the proper syntax ( if any) to specify multiple pc and multiple share names ? I would like to do one complete backup on a single 4mm DAT tape. Is there a better way to do this using Samba ? I am using Samba version 1.9.17p4 running on Sun Solaris 2.5.1

Suddenly can't print: "rec_read bad magic..."
Suddenly, today, my wife's Windows 95 machine can't print to the network printer on my Linux machine. It complains that "there was an error printing to \\posh\lp ... There was a problem printing to the port." The error 1st occurred (coincidentally?) after I had upgraded the kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.4.19. But rebooting to 2.4.18 has made no difference. We're running smbd
