Strange behavior when using 'hosts allow' parameter
I wanted to bring attention to some odd behavior which I don't believe is
intentional.
With Samba running, I can go to a Windows machine on the network
(10.0.0.0/24) and see all of the Samba shares by pulling up an Explorer
window and going to \\Server1 Everything appears to work as expected.
However, if I populate the 'hosts allow' parameter within smb.conf as
follows:
hosts allow

I've inserted the netgroup information into LDAP and the log information

Samba Connection Problem
I've just set up samba for a small LAN. I'm running samba 2.2.7 on RH 8. Now I have a real problem that I have no clue on. I have VERY intermittent connectivity
to the Samba server. If I left a computer (Windows 98) idle for a while, and then try to browse the contents in the Samba server, I will get this error " domain is unavailable" or "The specified network name is no

As one can see the IP number is looked up in the netgroups database
instead of the host name.
I have done some investigations and added debug messages. So i found
that only_ipaddrs_in_list() returned True even if
is_ipaddress() from util.c returned False for one ore more of the
tokens. As a result the host name lookup is skipped.
I have written a corrected version, on my server it works
properly.

Running some tests we found the problem occurred when the values in
"host allow" were names, and the results were corrects for IP addresses.
By taking a look at the source we've come to the conclusion that in file
lib/access.c, routine only_ipaddrs_in_list(), there is a bug when
testing the occurrences of the character '/' to determine whether it
is dealing with an IP/mask pair or not.
Please, find attached a simple patch to solve this problem.
One final comment: when debugging the program we found that by setting
the debug level to 3 sur...
