linux machine codeweaver 1.0 is running.
EXCEL97 behaves well but for WINWORD97 I got the alert box "not enough
memory or working space". Well I think I have enough memory but it may
be a configuration problem.

W2K Office97 File Open or Save problem
Hi all
I have a Samba 2.2.2-3.2mdk build running on 8.1 Mandrake. All the Win9x
clients work fine. The Win2k clients also work fine except that from
within Word or Excel they can't use file open or file save. When trying
to open or save a file on a drive that is mapped to the Samba share then
the app says that the user does not have enough privileges on drive x:

Command line trash ?
Hi!
I'm attempting to start setup.exe from office97 package.
The installer starts but then bails out with the dialog
Wrong parameters on the command line: "
(see the unpaired double quote) and then pops another dialog
with its usage, then exits.
I'm calling it just with wine setup.exe, no quotes nor
other characters there. I was trying...

Using Office2000 with Samba (latest version)
I need your help. I've searched the Internet and did a lot of experimenting
but I cannot get Office 2000 to work with Linux 7.3 and the latest-version
of Samba. I had no problem with Office97 and other applications. I used
the setup /a on a win2000 client to decompress the files so I could run
setup and install the applications on the Samba share. The files will
install onto the Samba share okay but it also loads files on the client and
adds office to the registry. In the client cont...

building ms-office.deb (rpm, tgz)
...fferent versions of office-cds around
(different languages, service packs, versions). My idea is to first
build a deb against one particular office-cd as a proof of concept and
then try to make it work with more and more combinations of Windows and
Office. An initial combination could be: Win98SE - Office97 - Debian
Woody.
-> I have no idea of legal implications.
What I need:
-> Feedback on the general idea, feasibility.
-> Feedback from people who successfully run Ms Office on Linux, and
their Wine setup.

...ove operations were done on the same share and in

I did find this in the samba 2.0.0 code:
smbd/trans2.c, line 1127:
SIVAL(pdata,4,128); /* Max filename component length */
So on the surface, this seems to be a problem with Microsoft's more recent
offerings (WinNT4, Office97) (surprise!) interacting with samba. Could it
be that Word and Explorer are querying the filesystem info, and then
setting some options that make samba end up truncating it. This is my
guess, and can it be worked around? I didn't see anything obvious in
smbd/reply.c:reply_open, but this may...

Erronous disk full message

'You are attempting to save a file on a disk that is full'.....
This only happen when using WinProj4, all other MS-apps appear to work

I think I have seen a reference to this error before, but I could not
locate it on any of the samba list archives.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what might be wrong, or where I can
search for a solution/workaround?

Problems w/long file access times (samba2.2.5 & WinXP pro) (fwd)
Hello all,
we're currently having problems with Windows XP machines that have
*very* long file access times for files that are located on our
linux-based samba server (samba 2.2.5 / linux 2.4.18). This happens with
all kinds of files, with all kinds of programs, including Office97, text
editors, develoment environments, etc.
Sometimes - the incidents itself seems to be random and is not
reproducible so far - a program freezes after a file to be opened or
saved is selected; depending on the program, it either
- returns after a minute or so claiming the operation has failed,...

Can not install Excel97/Word97
Hello!
I am new to this list (although I have done a fair amount of research in the archives) and I need to ask what is probably one of the most frequently asked questions on a list like this:
How do I install Word97 and Excel97?
(Codeweavers CrossoverOffice can do this, and they ASSURE us that they roll everything they do back to the main wine CVS and hence, this SHOULD work!)
So far; this is

Samba record locking & PC db's
...rld experience running PC
database apps (like M$ Access) with database files shared from a samba
server. How well has the record locking proven to work? I will be
setting up a small office network for a client w/ a Linux server running
samba as a file/print server and 4 or 5 Win95 clients running Office97
apps.
This is slightly off-topic, but I was wondering if anyone could
offer a comparison of samba-sharing PC db files or using a C/S setup with
something like PostgreSQL as a backend.
