"sudo gem install rails" not able to install thin dependency
Hi folks,
I''m having trouble getting gems to install rails. It just keeps asking
me which version of thin I want to install. Until I choose skip or
cancel, in which case I''m told that something has gone wrong.
Any advice?
Thanks kindly,
Tommy

FreeBSD - Secure by DEFAULT ?? [hosts.allow]
Hi,
I need to know what the implications are to make use of the hosts.allow file
on a FreeBSD Production Server (ISP Setup)? The reason I'm asking, is that
I've recently decommisioned a Linux SendMail Server to a FreeBSD Exim
Server, but with no Firewall (IPTABLES) yet.
Besides the fact that it only runs EXIM and Apache, is it necessary to
Configure rc.Firewall? or can I only make use of

First, I hope that this message is not considered flame bait. As someone
who has used FreeBSD for for 5+ years now, I have a genuine interest in
the integrity of our source code.
Second, I hope that this message is not taken as any form of insult or
finger pointing. Software without bugs does not exist, and I think we all
know that. Acknowledging that point and working to mitigate the risks

ipf stopped working on 5.3
I've had ipf working on a few 5.3 servers for quite awhile. Not too long ago
some developers had to do some coding work and were coming from dynamic
IP's. I (reluctantly) opened up SSH to the world. Immediately I started
seeing the attacks where bots of some sort would try to break in with a
variety of different users.
So, I (thought) I closed it up again and told the developers to use a

UserEngine + User Profiles
[Cross Posted in Rails Engines]
I''m taking a new approach to how I view user data, I think in the end it
will be faster for the system anyways... What I''m doing is using
LoginEngine/UserEngine combo on my site for authorization, and I want
each user to have a profile that they edit and maintain. Each user
would have 1 profile.
My question is getting my profile and my user

Specification Testing in Binary Choice Models
Hi,
First of all I'm sorry if my question is repeated. I could not find an
answer to it after searching the mail archive or the whole net.
I have estimated a binary choice (probit, to be specific) model using 'glm'
function in R, and now I want to perform some diagnostic tests, among which
testing for heteroscedasticty is most important for my work.
My question is if there are any

Is anyone on this list using and audiocodes FXO gateway? I have
Asterisk(1.07 on OS X) setup and working fine, including SIP phones
and IAX2 phones - I can make outbound calls just fine and receive
inbound calls just fine. However, I can't seem to find the right
series of DTMF settings on the AudioCodes to allow DTMF tones to be
sent after an outbound call is connected(phone banking,

qda plots
Hi,
I have been using some of the functions in r for classification purposes,
chiefly lda, qda, knn and nnet.
My problem is that the only one I can figure out how to represenent
graphically is lda (using plot.lda). I have tried 'fooling' this function
into accepting qda input for plotting but to no avail. I wonder if you have
any suggestions?
Thanks alot,

Problems with Wait & SIP 486 "DND"
Greetings,
I have implemented the following command to allow CNAM to be delivered to my users.
exten => 9969,1,Wait(1)
This works great!
However it has spawned a new problem. When this is implemented into a full dial plan. If a user is set to DND or sends a call to Voicemail by hitting deny the caller gets a busy. Below is a result of the calls.

lda on curves
I'm working on a rather interesting consulting problem with a client. A
number of physical variables are measured on a number of cricket bowlers
in the performance of a delivery. An example variable might be a
directional component of angular momentum for a particular joint
measured at a large number (101) of equally spaced timepoints.
Each bowler generates a (fairly smooth) curve for

how to adjust link function in logistic regression to predict the proportion of correct responses in 2AFC task?
I have would like to use logistic regression to analyze the
percentage of correct responses in a 2 alternative forced
choice task. The question is whether one needs to take into
account the fact expected probabilities for the percentage of
correct responses ranges between 0.5 and 1 in this case and
how to adjust the link function accordingly in R (see details below).

books about MCMC to use MCMC R packages?
Dear list users,
I need to learn about MCMC methods, and since there are several packages in
R that deal with this subject, I want to use them.
I want to buy a book (or more than one, if necessary) that satisfies the
following requirements:
- it teaches well MCMC methods;
- it is easy to implement numerically the ideas of the book, and notation
and concepts are similar to the corresponding R
