New York Times - R - article a fraud?
I worked on some ad data before and I found NYT article very biaised and not far from a fraud... Anyone knows if they got money from a - company - to play 'R'? Check out the title: R U Ready for R? Seems to me this title was stolen from XLSolutions www.xlsolutions-corp.com and they never mentioned XLSolutions in the article!...

US 2004 Elections map
even for people who didn't like the outcome of the US elections this year, it must have been a joy to see all the nice (and not so nice) graphs that were shown. As an exercise, I recreated the map shown on the NY-Times website [ http://www.nytimes.com/packages/khtml/2004/11/03/politics/ 20041103_px_ELECT_GRAPHIC.html ] If you're interested, http://www.ai.rug.nl/~hedderik/R/US2004 contains the created maps, the data and the code. Note that there are some differences in the R map and the NYT map (most notably with respect to...

The Origins of R AND CALCULUS
...nities.or at the very minimum hoping for some amusement. an assumption or even a pretense of stealing credit is one of the easiest ways of sparking intellectual discord Most users of softwares don't really care about who gets credit ( Who wrote Windows Vista ,or Mac OS or Ubuntu Linux), and the NYT is a newspaper not a journal. Does any student, or teacher for that matter care whether Newton or Leibntiz invented calculas. Ashlee Vance's article on R in the New York Times
...ing is true , and as fair and balanced as appropriate in the context. 2: I've invested the time in research and fact-checking so that point #1 actually has credibility. Vance clearly fails on point #2. He just didn't do his homework. And as I've seen over the years, this is typical for NYT contributors. That's complacency. A bit like SAS Institute - NYT is overly reliant on it's brand name. First of all, the third paragraph is a falsehood. I'm not saying Vance is lying. I'm saying he's lazy. A couple of hours of research, and he could have corrected that. If you...

Announcing Version 2.0.0 of Icecast
After many years of development and testing, icecast has finally moved to 2.0.0. What's new in 2.0 ? * completely rewritten codebase from 1.x - highly efficient and low memory usage. * addition of new media types (Ogg Vorbis) and a framework to add new ones easier. Icecast still supports MP3 streaming as well (including shoutcast-style metadata) * a web-based administration

AT&T Researchers and the New York Times
Is anyone in the leadership of the R-project going to contact the New York Times and clarify that the article gave remarkably short shrift to the people who designed the user interface for R, to a large extent AT&T researchers from an earlier generation? It would be the appropriate thing to do. The R team did not develop the user interface for R, the designers of the S programming language

"Neutral" sources that attest to the success of the R project?
...amming language)" article in Wikipedia was nominated as a "Engineering and technology good article" but did *not* meet the good article criteria at the time (2010). The reviewer at the time made two interesting comments about the article: - Sources are almost all (except for one NYT article) online wiki-type sources. These may be self-published, and may not be reliable sources. - The subject is treated in a non-neutral way by the authors. Heroically positive statements are made without proper sourcing, e.g. "R [is] the de-facto standard language for statisti...
