WinXP clients connect slowly to Samba
Folks,
Haven't been able to find any information on either issue.
1) We have Windows clients (primarily NT4sp6a and WinXP sp1) connecting to
Samba servers, and it works fine but the connections are slow. They take
5-10 seconds whereas connections to native Windows servers are nearly
instant.
2) The WinXP machines seem to disconnect the SMB session to the Samba
servers ASAP rather than waiting the 15 minute...

Samba 3.0 Alpha
Does net rpc join work in SAMBA (using HEAD from CVS compiled this morning)
Configured with ACL, with PAM, and with WINBIND.
It seems that I cannot rejoin my domain (PDC is NT4sp6a) after I turfed
machine.sid and secrets.tdb. I tried using smbpasswd first and was informed
to use net join rpc instead.
Logs available if needed.
Thanx

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a
I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I
faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even
dont know if it can be a samba-problem.
When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice
versa I get bad performance:

2.2.8a-1, Raidzone, filesize > ~17.6GB
I am working with a Raidzone tech to solve a problem with our Raidzone
NAS. The tech told me he has not yet posted to any Samba list about this,
and gave me permission to do so.
Using XCOPY from either NT4SP6a or W2KSP3, over varying network paths, a
file of 18,490,235K-1 bytes or smaller will copy to the NAS successfully in
about 45 minutes, but a file of 18,490,256K-1 bytes or larger will
fail. The failure occurs in about 7 minutes with a message on the Windows
computer of either "end of file...

still problems to join domain with W2Ksp2
Hi,
what I've done:
Installed Redhat 7.2 and Samba 2.2.2 from rawhide.
Configured samba as a PDC and WINS-Server.
Added Useraccounts and Mashineaccounts for my NT4SP6a-Users and -Systems.
The NT4 Systems can join the domain, the Users can access the shares.
Installed W2K with sp2 on an testsystem.
I can access the shares with different users.
I added the mashine account for the testsystem and added
nt acl support = no to the global section
and a profile share...

3000'ish Open Files - causes network connection to be reset from single machine
...: 2.2.6
Server_OS: Mandrake 8.2
Client_OS: NT 4 workstation
There seems to be a issue on a Samba server when NT telnet sessions have
roughly
1500-1600 files open on a samba server. The client has a Clipper database
application that opens roughly 150 file handles per session. When logged
into
the NT4sp6a workstation machine locally, everything is fine. I am able to
open
the application 20+ times with no issues at all. The files and application
are
on the Samba network drive "S".
When the application is executed from 10 or 11 telnet sessions (using

Bruno,
could you please try the attached patch? With this patch applied I could
easily install exchange 5.5 sp4 on nt4sp6a.
Thanks,

2) If I change the default winbind separator from \ to + as suggested (I
agree that at the unix level the backslash is problematic with a shell) then
the Permissions tab on a file shows either a)No user/groupnames at all from
an NT4sp6a box or b)User/groupnames like domain+user or domain+group from a
Win9x box using the nexus sysadmin tools. When using the \ the names appear
correctly on both boxes. My C isn't up to changing this but surely
regardless of the separator used on the samba box, it should return a
backslash to th...

Hi,
may be a simple question, may be not :-)
I have a Linux-Samba-Server (kernel 2.2.19, Samba 2.0.7) in network
172.17.20.0/24, and two NT4sp6a-clients (only IP protokoll installed);
one in the same network as the server, the other client in network
172.27.10.0/24. The networks are connected by a 3Com Router (because I
dont have that mutch knowledge of this, I haven't looked at it yet.)
The server is configured to act as a PDC and...
