(HELLLP!) Samba-2.0.3 + NT4sp4 + domain
Hello,
Here's the backgroup:
- Samba 2.0.3
- Samba is domain controller
- Win9x machines log on to domain just fine
- PROBLEM: WinNT sp4 machine (name: LR-P400) cannot join domain
Other relevant info:
- smb.conf: domain logons = yes
- smb.conf: encrypt passwords = yes
- smb.conf: security = user
- even tried EnablePlainTextPassword registry mod on the NT machine

NTDOM FAQ question 2.3
I've compiled and installed Samba version 2.0.0-prealpha (15) on an
IRIX 6.2 box without problem. I created an account using 'smbpasswd -a -m'
and see it in the private/smbpasswd file. I can see the server
'ackowledging' the NT 4.0 workstation client to some extent in the log
files but still see
"The machine account for this computer either does not exist or is not

Samba using Domain Contollers with SP4 applied
Has anyone with security = server tried to authenticate against a NT server
that runs Service Pack 4 yet? I have not tried yet, but there are some
changes
that may effect this such as SAM format changes and secure channel integrity
checking.
Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

FILE CACHE/LOCKING DOES NOT WORK
...oplocks,
sync and changed the registry in Win95 as per article in FAQ but with no
success.
I have checked that all the UNIX systems have the same smb .conf and that
they are
basically configured the same.
Details:
UNIX Machines: SUN/SUN Clones, Solaris 2.6
WINDOWS Machines: Windows95b
NT Machines: NT4sp4
The above experiment was done with a small .txt file
Version 1.19.16p10 OK
Version 1.19.18p11 BAD
Version 2.0.3 BAD
Any ideas ?
Thanks
Mick Taylor

Performance Question...
We have 600 PCs - PIII 450 - with NT4SP4, 10BaseT Full Duplex SMC9432 NICs,
64MB.
Server is RS/6000-H50 1GB Memory and 4-way SMP. It serves 64GB of student
storage and 8GB shared programs (Read Only).
Samba 2.0.5a is configured with 4MB shared mem, TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY
SO_SNDBUF=131072 SO_RCVBUF=131072.

Race Condition cont'd
Thank you Paul for your response. Perhaps I can give a bit more info:
RS/6000 H50 w/AIX 4.3.2 running Samba 2.0.5a
PIII-450 NT4sp4 w/128MB
I indicated yesterday that a race condition appeared to be happening. I later
remembered that I turned on level2 oplocks on two read only shares as the last
tunings we did before this began to happen. I got the info from the Speed.txt
document in hopes of increasing performance on our read...

Problem Remote Printing with smbclient and NT

ffffffff, open_flags = 1, ref_count = 1.
1999/04/13 19:29:51 error packet at line 2673 cmd=192 (SMBsplopen)
eclass=1 ecode=5
error string = Permission denied
So, it seems I cannot print from smbclient, although I can browse file
shares (eg, tmp). Also, I cannot print from NT4SP4, although I can
browse file shares. I know there are problems with security, encrypted
passwords, etc., but since this is all behind a firewall I'd just like
to get remote printing via SAMBA working.
I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but it isn't obvious to me and
I've spe...

Problems copying many files
I'm encountering problems copying files from a Windows NT workstation
to a Linux system. Not all of the files are being copied.
A week ago I submitted a bug report. The only response was an
automated reply acknowledging that the message was received. I'm
assuming that they are very busy and have not had time to go through
all of the incoming e-mail.
Maybe someone here could help, or

...ain.
I have already used, in the past, Samba 1.9 on AIX box but only to share disk
on 5 PC Windows 95.
Now I want to share more than 30 Go of data (MS-Office 2000 files, MS-Acces
databases, Paradox databases and others files access databases) for 300
stations (In majority W98se but also W95 OSR2, NT4SP4/5 WS and W2000 Pro).
Moreover, the number of station will increase quickly in the 2 next years.
Actually, we use Norton AntiVirus Corporate edition 7.0 to protect the 2
servers with the "on-access" detection mode.
I seek a powerfull system to replace the 2 old Netware servers.
If I use S...

I have a network of windows machines (Win 98 workstations, with an
NT4SP4 4 server). Recently, we needed to add an out-of-state
workstation (Win Mill.). A VPN was set up (with CIPE, but that
shouldn't matter) over the DSL at both locations (yes, I know that
it's not going to be that stable ;).
On the two router/firewall Linux machines, Samba 2.2.0 is running.
