...with -d (broadcasting--no responses at all; this was working fine earlier under a previous attempt at installing samba, so it probably isn't an ip/mask error). And while my samba server appears in Windows' network list, any attempt to "net view" or "net use" from Windows NT4sp3 gives me this error: System error 26 has occurred. NT4SP3 and encrypted passwords
Hello all, we use Samba to serve about 20 DOS/WfW/Win95 machines in 'security=share' mode. We use unix accounts as password validation, so I _know_ our Samba does not accept encrypted passwords. On Thursday, we added a NT4/SP3 box. I expected it not to logon before we made the plain-text password registry patch, but it did! It's a new NT installation (on a new AMD K6 box), so I

Encrypting passwords for NT
I am trying to use Samba 2.0.3 with encrypted passwords. I have everything set up according to the instructions in encryption.txt, and can authenticate into NT 4 Server shares with smbclient. I can also attach to my smb server using either smbclient or Win95. But NT4sp3 won't browse or connect. That I can connect to external NT shares would seem to indicate that samba is correctly sending encrypted passwords. Additionally, when I try to enable NT4sp3's clear text passwords using the registry, it still fails to connect to my samba server (The remote proce...

pwdump on german NT
Hi, I had trouble getting the pwdump program to work correctly on a german version of NT4SP3. I believe the problem is based on the fact that the german group 'Administrators' is called 'Administratoren', and Administrators is hard-coded into the utility. Would it be possible to make that an optional parameter? Unfortunately, I have no access to a C-Compiler on an NT-stat...

samba security levels and NT browsing
...ws Logon name and password.... the error is " > Incorrect username and password" In the above configuration, can you successfully do a Net Use... command from a command prompt (on the NT machine) to mount a samba share as a local drive? I can't explain the details myself, but NT4SP3 cannot browse the samba shares without at least one open connection (with security = user and no encryption). See WinNT.txt in the samba docs. > Moreover.. if I try to run the "addtosmbpass" script in the /bin > directory.. to add users to the smbpasswd file.... it does not wo...

3.0.10 not joined NT4 domain
Hi, all! In the end I want to make Squid authorize users via NT4 domain. I have Samba 3.0.10 (further named PROXY) and NT4SP3 PDC (named CONTROL). # net rpc join -U admin Password: (I enter) Joined domain: REGENT.CENTER. It seems to be OK, but the following record appears in PDC's system log: Event ID: 5723 Source: NETLOGON Type: Error Description: The session setup from the computer PROXY failed because ther...

DOS style 8.3 filename mangling issues??!
Okay, I've run through all of the tests in the DIAGNOSE, which my 1.9.18p1 SAMBA server (and NT4SP3/W95 clients) pass with flying colours. server box: Linux 2.0.33, gcc 2.7.2.2, libc 5.4.33, shadow, quota on (usr+grp), and my smb.conf is summarised (by testparm output) below: Problem is this: with respect to programs not long filename-aware/compliant, users cannot "double-click" on fi...

DST problem with samba on Solaris and NT4 clients
...nts create files on the Unix filesystem using Samba, the timestamp of the Unix file is correct when I look at it under Solaris, but there is 1 hour difference when reading the file time on the PC, the file is created 1 hour in the future. We are running Samba 1.9.18p4 under Solaris 2.5.1, and have NT4SP3 on our clients. PCs are set to the "Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam" timezone with the "adjust clock for DST changes" option selected. On the Unix side, /etc/TIMEZONE contains TZ=MET. The setup looks fine to me, both PC and Unix system individually display the correct time. All syst...

samba crashes NT-workstation??
...ash once, and now as the samba server is 'serving' again, the NT has its standstills again. (and that's why it has to have something to do with the samba networking (or another networking problem). Did anyone have similar symptoms on his/her systems with linux-samba and NT-WS machine? (nt4sp3, security=user, samba-1.9.18pl1-10) Any clue welcome. Grettings cmb ### cmb@studi.unizh.ch

I can smbclient both NT and win95 boxes, but "Net View NT_box" (from win95) and "smbclient -L NT_box" both fail (but browsing both samba and NT from win95 works fine). I can "smbmount //win95/share /mnt/smb01" just fine, but the same command on the NT box...

NT access problems:
...ve to map the NT hostname to a valid username in smbusers (even if the NT account name matches the linux account name). The only catch is, the mapped name will no longer be able to access the samba shares directly (which is probably not a problem for an NT hostname). Also, there's a goofy NT4SP3 feature that requires an open connection before NN browsing (of the samba shares) will work. So: for each user who will login to the NT machine to access the samba shares, add an entry to the smbusers file mapping the linux username to the NT hostname. Then, login to NT and open a command pr...
