Bug#795330: Suggests noapic but doesn't support it
Package: xen-hypervisor-4.5-amd64
Severity: normal
Hi,
when running xen inside of kvm the hypervisor fails to set up the proper
IRQ routing and suggests to use noapic. If you add this via
GRUB_CMDLINE_XEN_DEFAULT
it will boot futher but then report that noapic isn't supported.
So please make Xen not claim to support noapic if it doesn't (the issue
was finally resolved by removeing all virtion devices and doubling the
hypervisors RAM so the suggest...

FTR, it seems to say:
panic("IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic_verbosity=debug "
"and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option");
Did you also try the first thing it suggested? What was the result?

Why noapic acpi=off on new Centos 4.6 system?
...query.
I wondered why "shutdown -h" would not power down the system. I then
also discovered that the soft power button did not initiate a switch
to runlevel 0 to do a controlled shutdown.
When I looked in grub.conf, I discovered that the installer had included
the boot parameters "noapic acpi=off". I removed them and rebooted, and
then found that both soft shutdown from the power button and the final
poweroff worked fine. I haven't stressed the system yet, but it seems
to boot and run fine.
My question is (at last): why did the installer decide it necessary to
include &qu...

Sun Fire X4200 M2 / CentOS 5 APIC issues
I had been running CentOS 5 happily on my Sun Fire X4200 M2 systems,
then I upgraded the BIOS and iLOM firmware. Now I'm running into what
seems to be a fairly common problem with newer motherboards. I cannot
boot unless I use the 'noapic' kernel option. If I try to boot the
kernel normally, I get the error:
"MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC"
I can boot using noapic, but interrupts are *HORRIBLE* with noapic on
the X4200 M2. Here is a system with the new BIOS running with noapic:

Boot problem with Debian Squeeza and Xen
Hi all,
I just upgraded my Debian/Etch with Xen3.3 machine to Debian/Squeeze

RE: "netdev watchdog" error and non-working sis900network card - solution
Yes, acpi=off seems to have decided my problem of instability. Soon, then I
will be returning the HD in the machine in production and I dispatched by
post the result.

Xen without APIC
Hi,
I am trying to boot Xen on top of a simulator. I am having problems with the
APIC module in my simulator, not related to Xen. So, I want to boot Xen
without APIC support. Is there a way to disable APIC support in Xen? I am
fine even Xen is restricted to uni-processor environment.
Thanks,
Bhaskar

should I insert noapic at grub.conf? What will I loose if i do noapic?
This is a performance oriented, intensive voice over ip server.

Xen on AM2 nForce 590 (Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe)
While I wait for the Xen 3.0 Test CD to download, has anyone has luck
using an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard (NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP
chipset)? The CPU is an AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ AM2 w/ 2GB DDR2 533.
The motherboard mostly works under Gentoo using kernel 2.6.18 with the
"noapic" kernel boot option in my grub.conf file. The only major issue
with the Gentoo kernel configuration is the "nobody cared" IRQ warning.
But after building the Xen kernel, the boot-up freezes during (I think)
the process of querying the SATA drives.

Boot/init problem with IBM Netfinity 4500
...doesn't
appear to be getting that far. So, somewhere between the initrd's
switchroot and spawning INIT something's broke.
It'll boot into rescue mount and I can chroot into the root filesystem
and everything in there seems to be as it should. I've tried booting
with selinux=0, noapic and noprobe with no change.
Where next? All suggestions appreciated.
Will.
