A gmane mystery
I've been collecting redhat.fedora from gmane for several years,
but about a week ago I found that while I could read gmane newsgroups
I was unable to post to them - that is, my posts did not appear.
I was able to post to gmane.test, and could read these posts.
So I assume there is no problem with my From: or other headers.
I take it that the gmane.linux.centos.general is in fact
"mirroring" the mailman mailing list...

Connecting to Newsgroup

You've got it wrong, those are not servers, those are newsgroups. You need to
go to Google (for example) and search for something like "free news server".

Newsgroup - another try?
As nobody seems to answer my request, I simply post it again.
Is there any reason why the r-help-mailinglist should not be converted to a
newsgroup?
These were the advantages of a newsgroup I mentioned earlier:
-) you can easily search the archives
-) the discussion is faster (I experience that the R-mailinglist has a lag
of about 1 to 2 hours (not for everyone!!!). When I ask a question, I get
sometimes a rather quick response by direct mail...

OT: list format vs newsgroup format
Arrrrgh
I hate trying to sift through all these messages and keep track of the
various threads going on .........
Who else on here prefers the newsgroup/threaded approach? If you haven't
already, check out news.gmane.org for mailing lists turned into newsgroups
readable by news readers.......
only problem being that this list requires list membership before
posting............<Shrug>

AW: Newsgroup - another try?
| I can think of two disadvantages of a newsgroup
|
| 1) Access
| Everyone with an email address can sub_scribe to the R mailing lists.
| However, not everyone has a news feed. I don't.
Everyone who has access to the internet can also have a news-account. There
are a lot of good free news-servers (most of the time hosted by
universities), and...

Hi,
is this mailing list connected to the wine newsgroup?

R-help in a newsgroup
...to be subscribed to several
high-traffic email lists. I don't want to lose my contact with the
R-help emails, so I'm having to consider various ways of handling the
traffic. Anyhow, I'm wondering how many people on the R-help email
list would prefer that most of the traffic were in a newsgroup? In
case your interested in that option, there is a group available at:
The-R-Project-for-Statistical-Computing at googlegroups.com
I think the subscription is through normal news group channels. The
google search services on this group are nice too. This group is not

That would also eliminate the need for special purpose archiving and
searching facilities since the site:
http://groups.google.com
would automatically provide that. That site also allows one to both read
and post via the web (with a delay of several hours) in case one does not
care to use newsgroup software.

cemw newsgroup and this mailing list, still connected?
Hi everyone,
Are the wine-users mailing list and news:comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine
newsgroups still connected ?
I've subscribed to the mailing list, then posted a message on the
newsgroup ( news:44f3c571$0$164$a3f2974a@nnrp1.numericable.fr ) but I
don't see it on the mailing list nor on gmane.org . That seems also true
for many other messages on news:gmane.comp.emulators.wine.us...

Google newsgroup or Forum setup.
I am sure this has been asked before, but why not use Google newsgroup or at least some forum BBS software instead of this cumbersome mailing list process?

FAST MONEY!!!!!!
DO YOU WANT TO MAKE EASY MONEY?
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while
back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came
across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands of
dollars WITHIN WEEKS with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought,
"Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us, I was curious, so I
kept reading. Anyway, it said...

Newsgroup - conclusion
...ieved my own question.
|
| That might be because the subject has acquired 'AW:' as a prefix. If
| you sort by subject, it comes a long way down the list.
No I just wanted to show my lag.
My conclusion is, that there are definetly some people here that are not
able to connect to a (fast) newsgroup server. I did not see that problem.
The news-email-gateway seems to be very problematic. So all in all it looks
to me as if it is the best way like it is now. Martin Maechler pointed out
that the problem for the moment, why I have sometimes a big lag is the
mailserver, which seems to be very busy....

TM convert Newsgroup to plain text
Hi,
Anyone tried to do stemming for emails (mbox format) using the Text
Mining (tm) package in R. According to the documentation the text
document collection has to be converted to text and there is no method
to convert Newsgroup (email) to plain text.
Thanks,
Saeed
