Does anyone know why sometimes a PDC appears in the Network neigborhood, and sometimes it doesn't?
The subject says it all, I think. At home I have a PDC (Linux with Samba), and
I have Win98 and Win 95(!) clients. And sometimes the domain name (workgroup
name) is visble in the Network neigborhood, and sometimes it is not. I also
got the impression that placing a link in the file NETHOOD makes a
difference, but I am not sure yet. The PDC is visible, that is, it can be
PINGed, I can connect to the shares, I can even login to it, but nothing
shows up in the Network Neighborhood, and if I c...

Windows can't see Samba server in Network Neigborhood
I have a private IP network with one win98 PC and one Linux PC. The
windows machine can only access shares if I map a network drive and type
the path in explicitly. When I go to network neighborhood the Linux PC
does not show up. Both machines are in the same workgroup, so it should
be there. When I type the path directly into the address bar in network
neighborhood the program stops

intermittent network neigborhood
Hello,
I have a WINS setup where my clients are on a different subnet. Some
can see the samba server and some cannot. All can login to the domain
fine and all can explicitly define a share like \\server\share but only
a few can BROWSE network neighborhood. Any ideas on what I should be
looking for here?
thank you!

NT machines can't see each other
I recently set up Samba on a sparc 2 running sun os 4.1.3. It's set up as
the browse master.
We have a few PC's running NT, 95, & 98. On the NT machines, only the
unix box shows up in the network neigborhood. Win95 & 98 are a little
weirder: some machines show up and others don't.
Any ideas on where to start? I've read the browsing docs and everything
looks correct.

Any idea?, thanks before (i'm attach my smb.conf from each pdc)

Windows XP Browsing Problems
Hi,
I upgraded first to samba rc 4 and now to the newest CVS Version, because
all my Windows XP Professional Clients cannot browse the network neigborhood
anymor. Also mapping is not possible.
What have I done wrong???
I have installed the Registry-Keys and all are domainmembers.
Windows XP Home does work. Something to do with domain settings???

domain logons = yes

Samba BDC does not register in WINS as BDC

I accidentally have BDC1 "local master = yes" initially but fixed that.
I have not since restart smbd or nmbd on either machine.
On a windows machine, in the network neigborhood, I can rt click on both
PDC and BDC1, and select properties and verify that the machine is
showing as a Primary or Backup.
However, nbtstat on XP and nmblookup on Solaris do NOT show BDC1 as a
domain controller. Specifially I am looking for

2.0.6/Sol. 251/NTW4 - Drive mapping anomaly
Has anyone seen the following anomaly?
When I first connect to the Samba server, I run a logon script that maps
5 shares to drives F,G,H,L,M.
Some time later, when I check "My Computer", I find that the share
mapped to H: has been mapped to all the remaining drive letters as well!
For example, after I mount /users on G: and /programs on H:, I'll notice
at some point later that I

Problem with domain controller & win98
Hi there,
I set up my samba that it acts as a domain controller,
when i start network neigborhood and click on the linux system and select
netlogon ([NETLOGON] entry in smb.conf) i first
had the problem with windows 98 that my password always was
wrong. i fixed this with a registry setting (something with plaintext), now
this part works.
Now i configured my windows 98 for using a domain-server...

samba and win98 grief
...n gone out and
bought the book "Using Samba" .... great book btw.
The samba server is running on a SuSE linux system and passes all the tests in
the DIAGNOSTICS.TXT file. It will happily connect to another WFWG 3.11 system.
The win98 system can see and access the samba shares in network neigborhood.
It can also see the shares on the WFWG system.
I just can't access the win98 system from samba!!!!! I've increased the
logging and don't get any more info other than the connection failed??? The
following is the exact command and the output when I use smbclient:

W2K and include=%U
...2000 SP2 and PDC to
Samba 2.2.2 we're faced with the following problem:
The shares due to the static entries in smb.conf are accessable,
the dynamic shares from smb.conf.%U as well.
After 1-2 minutes the dynamic generated shares that are _not_
mapped to a drive-letter disappears in the network neigborhood
(also "net view"). Trying to type "net use * \\server\dyn_ressource"
brings no success.
The logfile shows that the username is properly provided by the
client. The test of including the variable %U in the comment of a
static share in smb.conf shows also the right username.

Browse list propagation
I had some discussion about this problem at the end of January and have
investigated further. The problem: Clients directly connected to the
subnets of the Samba server get a browse list (network neigborhood),
while clients that access the serveer over a router do not. there are no
broadcasts, Samba is functioning as a WINS server and is working for all
clients (nblookup proves this). I upgraded from 3.0.10 to 3.0.20b-1 but
this made no difference.
I have spent quite some time with Ethereal an noti...

PDC Problems(winbind, joining domain, net groupmap, etc), FreeBSD 5.3, LDAP
...smbldap-tools-0.8.8
What works:
Openldap seems to be working fine, and I can use SSH & IMAP with LDAP
user credentials.
ldapsearch work with starttls.
smbldap scripts from idealx seem to work(also with starttls).
smbldap-populate worked fine. as well as smbldap-useradd.
If I browse network neigborhood with a w2k client I can authenticate
to a users home share that is in LDAP.
What doesn't work:
wbinfo -g shows:

BUILTIN^account operators
BUILTIN^print operators
BUILTIN^backup operators
BUILTIN^replicators

samba not logging windows user names
Hi,
Is it possible that samba logs the windows username of the person that
is connecting to a share. On many shares I use 'force user = testuser'.
In the log I only see the messages "connect to service test as user
testuser". This gives me only the username smbd should become.
I also tried logging to a file which contains '%U' but this give me very
often the

Samba performance question
...ased home network.
There is only one win client (NT workstation, Sp4).
The samba box ist set up with wins support enabled and the NT box?
wins server entry points to samba server. Everything works fine: no
error messages neither server nor client. The server shows up
immediately in the NT?s network neigborhood. Browsing is fast.
