Windows explorer pop-up descriptions: unfair to Samba
Hello,
I would like to get this question answered in support of a decision
about whether or not to move some large shares from Windows Server to
Samba.
Windows Explorer has a feature called "Show pop-up description for
folder and desktop items", which I will call SPD. SPD, which is
enabled by default, shows a folder's contents and size when you hover
your mouse cursor over it. It

[OT]: Asking questions on this list
Hi List,
it appears that for the third or fourth time now, I''ve asked a
question that nobody seems to respond to. Other questions (often
things that could quite easily have been extracted by searching
with Google or from api.rubyonrails.org) are answered almost
momentarily.
I''ve to admit I''m more than a little frustrated by this, so have
to ask myself if it was my own

Information installation package sjPlot
Hi all,
I am new. I am installing the library sjPlot on Ubunto 16.10 and I guess it is installing some dependencies. But it is taking more than 1.5 hours, is it possible?
It has right now halted (hope momentarily) in installing the package 'rstan', particularly the file lang__grammars__statement_grammar_inst.o
Other packages installed include: dygraphs, colourpicker, raster.
Is it good

XML question
Is there a way you can use RoR to create an .xml file?
Say I had a DB full of info that I wanted to format and have export as
"lorem.xml" inside of a specific directory in my web server?
Then, each time I updated the DB it would re-export the file (delete the
old, save the new?)

metadata 2
Hoi folks,
I don't like to post in newsletter because of several reason but sometimes it
isn't evitable.
I am setting up a internet-radio-show (exclusively live, including 2 video-streams)
and I want to read out the audio-metadata of momentarily played tracks in realtime
to compare it against a SQL-database.
The aim is to fill up and/or update a table with 'most played'

Hangupcause is not enough on PRI
Hi,
I'm using Asterisk and a TE110P E1 PRI in Chile.
When I call to a disconnected number or any not operational number, the
telco sends the Hangupcause disconnection code and an audio message
notifying the disconnection cause to the user.
Asterisk does not allow the user to hear the audio message form the telco,
instead it cuts the call. Any other legacies PRI PBX I've tested allow

connection tracking
Hello
I have some rules inserted in the NAT table dual SNAT and DNAT for a
connection
They use at some moment the same port of the outside network.
The problem i have is that the connection tracking in the kernel checks
first the oldest rule and then the newest one.
I use a system based on ARM XScale processor. Is that the default behaviour
and how can i change this behaviour?

Mail marked read upon download
Just set up a new server with postfix and dovecot. I don't know why,
but as soon as mail is accessed it is marked read. I'll see emails
momentarily marked unread, but then switch to read later although I
haven't opened them.
This has never been an issue before.
Any ideas why?
Thanks.

TDM400 dropping loop current 10 seconds after answer
Hi everyone,
I have a TDM400 configured with 4 FXS ports, each connected to a
caller-id analog trunk port on a Nortel system. Outgoing calls work
great. But on incoming calls it appears that loop current is getting
dropped momentarily about 10 seconds after the call is answered. Since
the Nortel system is programmed to recognize this as remote party hangup
it is causing all incoming calls to

Any way to temporarily disable a registered SIP PEER in Asterisk?
Hi Everyone,
We want to be able to momentarily or temporarily provide CONGESTION or
DE-REGISTER a SIP PEER to asterisk through WEB GUI. I don't want to indulge
into dial-plan and write changes to .conf file every-time. Is there any way
that a SIP PEER can be de-registered for an amount of time or maybe
deactivated? or there isn't such facility available in asterisk?
Thanks

systray apps invisible
I have a problem with applications residing in systray. The systray is
always invisible, nowhere onscreen to be found. What the app starts I
sometimes see a window showing itself and the immediately disappearing
again. The applikation is running but I cannot access it.
I have to start the app with desktop in order to gain access to the
systray, but that surely cannot be the idea (as I do see

Running any of the windows binaries in Windows XP cause programs to immediately

placement of ups shutdown command for snmp systems
Hi,
?
on Debian and maybe other systems one of the last steps the system's shutdown procedure does is to shut down the UPS via upsdrvctl to turn off the machine and to conserve power.? But this is a place where network communications via SNMP is not possible anymore because the interfaces are down.
?
So, I am looking for a good place where I can turn off the UPS.? In upsmon.conf there is the

Hello, a bit of a problem with Dovecot. Version is 1.0.15 and is a
default install (no changes to config) from FC8 repository... except
that Dovecot is configured to use Maildir
I have a user on the system who uses the tags in Thunderbird (Important,

Question :: groundstart and loopstart
Hello Astrites,
I was just about to send out a long email about not being able to detect hang-up with my CAC II FXO module on my PSTN POTS lines. I had tried many configurations. I had attached a toner to the line to see if I was getting this "disconnect supervision" signal after hang-up. (toner has a line powered light in the off position) It seemed that I was getting the signal,

firewalld trouble opening a port
Hey all,
I'm having a little trouble opening up a port on a C7 machine.
Here's the default zone:
[root at appd:~] #firewall-cmd --get-default-zone
home
So I try to add the port:
[root at appd:~] #firewall-cmd --zone=home --add-port=8181/tcp
success
Then I reload firewalld:
[root at appd:~] #firewall-cmd --reload
success
Simple! That should do it. Right? Well not quite.
Cuz when

R-help going to become "subscriber-only"
Dear R-help mailing list readers,
After some discussion among R foundation members (and friends),
we have agreed that ``the spammer mafia (*)'' has momentarily won a
battle:
After more than ten years of open and free mailing lists devoted
to R (development, use, etc),
the increasing volume of spam {quadrupling within one year, I'm
told by an expert} and the slickness of the spam
