Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew why there would be so many Samba (smbd) processes running on my SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 system? I found an awful lot of them running, much more that what I would expect given the number of Windows PC's on the network. Hello everybody! Obviously Samba as a PDC and Fileserver for w2k clients is not as easy as I first thought. Soon after setup and integration in a network a problem with the shares and MS Word appeared. Any time a file is opened with M$ Word directly from a share and edited it can't be saved. Hello, does anyone know if there is a tool in existence that can monitor samba shares like smbstatus but is much more advanced (and runs in console) , I mean a tool that has menues, some search options, and things sorted out nice. A Samba realtime monitor would be the best thing with lots of details and lots of options. I tried Swat, but that aint really a solution to watch who is connected

i download samba3.02 source tar package from samba.org , do the below steps on my freebsd5.2 #./configure --with-mysql-prefix=/usr/local/mysql #.... #make #.... #make install #..... after install, i add a user: #pdbedit -a billy then use the simple smb.conf [global] security=user [tmp] path=/tmp guest ok=yes everything is ok, i can access this samba server using windows client.

Hmm, gues i missed something... i updated to samba 304, and i had a print script (print command = <script>) but it's not executed annymore ?? i do use cups to get the papers roling...! i did saw some info in the man, saying, that samba compiled against libcups, is not using the print command annymore ?? Huh.. why ?? is there a way to use my cups printer daemon, and the print command ?
