Million linux virtual machines
...an
a million Linux kernels as virtual machines.
(how long before shared hosts use this....lol)
The technique will allow them to effectively observe behaviour found in
malicious botnets, or networks of infected machines that can operate on the
scale of a million nodes.
One of the researchers Ron Minnich, said they are often difficult to analyze
since they are geographically spread all over the world.
However using virtual machine and a Thunderbird supercomputing cluster for
the demonstration, the team was able to run VMS at a similar scale as a
botnet.
This allows cyber researchers to watch how...

autotoolizing xen?
Hi there!
I was wondering what the general opinion on autotoolizing xen is? I am
volunteering to do so, if there is interest in updating the build system to
use autoconf, automake and/or libtool.
Is one configure script for all of xen enough or do you want to be able to
configure all/some tools separately? I know that Anthony is no fan of
libtool... are there more reservations about some

[Fwd: [Xen-changelog] Move xcs to unix domain sockets.]
...m0''s, particularly those who don''t
want TCP present at all. Those wanting TCP support will need another daemon
layered on top of xcs to provide that funtionality.
I personally am in favor of the Unix domain socket approach, so my
condolences to those in the other camp (Ronald Minnich) :)

xen 2.0/2.0.1 reboots silently on via C3-cpu
On my lex mainboard with a Via C3 cpu, xen 2.0(.1) reboots (nearly)
immediately without any outputs.
The same setup/version boots without problems on a via epia M board with
a Via C3-2 cpu (Nehemia), having a rather different chipset.
Starting with option noreboot, nobiostables doesn''t change anything
visible.
Is this a known problem? Or just a knowingly unsupported chipset?
Have you

PCI pass through vs. slot
I am a bit confused on the PCI stuff.
PASSTHRU-- does this mean that pcifront is not needed? Or only that
the PCI is not limited as it is with slot.
In general, none of the docs are getting me anywhere with xen 3.0.3.
Example: I run this:
echo -n 0000:2:0.1>/sys/bus/pci/drivers/pciback/new_slot
echo -n 0000:2:0.0>/sys/bus/pci/drivers/pciback/new_slot
echo -n bind 0000:2:0.0 >

Message: Authentication failed on manager interface
I'm not sure how much more simple I can make this but I just cannot
seem to get my Asterisk 13 to accept a connection on the manager
interface:

enabled = yes
port = 5038
bindaddr = 127.0.0.1
[myasterisk]
secret=a
permit=0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
read = all
write = all
So, couldn't be any more wide open and simpler to connect yet:

domains flapping
Whilst tinkering with lvm (which now works great - thanks!), I made a typo which caused the domain to stop booting. I think it was just that I got the config file wrong in terms of which device mapped to which.
Anyway, I had specified ''restart=True'' and so the domain was starting to boot, failing, then restarting again. This was the expected behaviour, but it was a pain to kill.

[PATCH] virtio_ring: make structure defines packed
Currently the virtio_ring structure are not declared packed, but they
describe an hardware like interface. We should not allow compilers to make
alignments and optimizations that can be different between the guest and
host compiler.
I propose to declare all structures that are in shared memory as packed.
Does anybody see a problem with packed?

Xen & Transmeta (from xen-users)
All-
With suggestions from Ian and previous posts on this list, I''ve been
investigating why Xen causes a Transmeta-based system to reboot immediately..
I''ve added instrumentation to xen/arch/x86/boot/x86_32.S (a
collection of ''.asciz "foo"'' statements) hoping to locate a point of
failure.. and it dies sometime before this code is run..

Problem on FC3
I''m getting a VFS kernel panic when trying to booting to FC3 from Xen.
Its the one that says I must supply a valid "root=" option. (sorry I
don''t have it verbatim.)
I''m using the xen-2.0 binary installer, kernel 2.6.9. I am using
ext3fs, but I am fairly certain that I have compiled support into the
kernel. (I''ve tired compile xen from the 2.0

Call on hold disconnects...
G'Day All,
How do I fix this:
I receive a call at the extension. Press the hold button. Music on hold
starts. When I place the handset back on the cradle, the call gets hung
up/disconnected. The Phone is A GrandStream Budge Tone 100.
Thanks

[patch 00/43] lguest: Patches for 2.6.24 (and patchbomb test)
Hi all,
These are the patches I'm planning to submit for 2.6.24. Comments
gratefully accepted. Along with the usual cleanups and improvements are Jes'
de-i386-ification patches, and a new "virtio" mechanism designed to be shared
with KVM (and hopefully other hypervisors).
Cheers,
Rusty.

plan 9 is up and working under xen 2.0
whew.
You guys did a lot of nice stuff for 2.0 so I''m glad to be caught up.
Also, no question, things run faster. I don''t know how you did it but I
like it.

it''s a good idea to do this:
wget --passive-ftp
for more and more sites. Probably a good default.
