wierd ssl-parameters.dat regeneration error
...uild-param) returned error 89
And thereafter, all login attempts resulted in this:
dovecot: Error: imap-login: read(ssl-parameters.dat) failed:
Unexpected EOF
dovecot: Error: child 19036 (login) returned error 89
Thankfully, deleting the ssl-parameters.dat file
(/var/run/dovecot/memoryhole.net/login/ssl-parameters.dat) and
restarting dovecot fixed the problem, but it seems odd to me that
dovecot expects /usr/local/var/lib/dovecot to exist (because, of
course, it doesn't). I'm not defining that directory in the config
file anywhere. Does anyone have any idea what's go...

zlib plugin weirdness
Hello,
I'm trying to get the zlib plugin working on my 2.0 server. I started
with an mbox that Dovecot can read just fine. Then I gzipped it, and
now Dovecot complains that it's corrupted:

help with static userdb
Hey,
This may be a dumb question... I'm trying to set up 1.0 with a static
userdb, and I'm getting stuck. I have:
userdb static {
args = uid=500 gid=500 home=/domains/%d/%n
}
When I attempt to log in as, say, kyle at memoryhole.net (via telnet, so
I *know* I'm logging in as that user), the debug log says that it
thinks my home directory is "/domains//kyle".
I even tried, just to check what might be going on:
args = uid=500 gid=500 home=/domains/%u/%d/%n
It then thought my home directory was "...

Lucene and Zlib with 2.2.1
Hello,
I have an "archive" folder in my inbox, where I manually stick old
mails into a compressed mbox format. Since upgrading to Dovecot 2.2.1,
I've started seeing messages like the following in my log files:
imap(...): Error: lucene: Failed to sync mailbox INBOX: Mailbox isn't selectable
indexer-worker(...): Error: lucene: Failed to sync mailbox INBOX: Mailbox

Support of client specific flags?
Gnus use a lot of custom flags to represent the messages state
wrt. Gnus.
How well are these flags supported in dovecot? How fast are access to
them? (Ie. will dovecot have to open the message and parse the headers)
Are they supported when using imapsync to transfer messages from a
different IMAP server? (I guess I'll find out soon, because I'm using
imapsync to transfer messages

Mailbox Hashing
First off, the website documentation is really good for Dovecot but while
reading I was not able to find anything pertaining to inbox hashing for
Maildirs. I saw plenty about hashing the directories that the user mailboxes
live in but nothing about specifically hashing an individual user's inbox
directory itself.
Is there any method for hashing the inbox automatically after say 5,000

Version 1.0.13 - Maildir directory names
I am running Maildir (obtained via [mac|darwin] ports) on my Powerbook Pro
to operate as local mail storage. My mail is stored in the Maildir format.
Is it possible to set Maildir not to put a dot in front of the directory
names? (e.g., ~/Maildir/somefolder instead of ~/Maildir/.somefolder). OS
X's spotlight indexing/search service will not index "hidden" directories
(those that

Namespaces
Hi all,
I'm working to convert from a bincIMAP setup to a Dovecot setup. I've
tried messing around with namespaces to make the conversion
transparent, but I'm getting nowhere. Are namespaces necessary? Or
can I proceed by recursively renaming the folders on the server? A
transparent solution would be wonderful, but I can't get it to work
for me..
Any help would be

removing IMAP keywords?
Hi there,
I found that with an IMAP command like
<unique-leader> STORE 1 +FLAGS (testflag)
I can set arbitrary flags on mails through the dovecot IMAP daemon.
This rules.
Now I wonder, however, how I can remove those flags, which become
properties of the folder, really. For instance, after the above,
SELECT on the containing folder gives:
* FLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen

X86_64 and 4GB RAM
Hello,
I have an odd problem on a dual processor, dual core Opteron system.
Obviosously it is x86_64 so should have no problem large amounts of
RAM. The system has 4 GB installed (2GB on each processor).
If I boot the system with a fresh install of Debian Etch it sees all the memory
fine. dmesg reports:
Memory: 4107008k/5242880k available (1929k kernel code, 86836k

Antispam plugin custom behavior?
Hello,
I currently have a setup on my system with what I call "magic folders"
to enable spam filter training. Here's how it works:
1. If you have a false-negative, put the spam into the Spam.Report
folder
2. If you have a false-positive (which has all kinds of ugly
spamassassin protective markup in it), put the message into the
Spam.NotSpam folder

Testing using namespaces
Hey there,
I'm interested in testing out using different storage formats for
different folder hierarchies. I *think* this can be achieved using
namespaces, but I'm not sure. For example, is it possible to, say,
make all directories under INBOX.Archive be stored as mboxes, while
everything else is stored as Maildirs?

Can the LDA deliver email marked as read?
Hello,
One of my users wants to be able to deliver email (e.g. via a procmail
script) and mark it *read* when it's delivered. We use Maildir as our
mail storage format. I have a bit of a hack script put together that
will do it by directly manipulating the Maildir (it delivers the email
using safecat, and then renames the file into the "cur" directory with
the necessary flags

logging volumes
Hello!
I?m in the process of migrating from BincIMAP to Dovecot, and I have a
minor question. One of the things that Binc does is logs how many
bytes of data it has sent as part of logging the log-out. Is there a
way to get Dovecot to do that, or to calculate something similar?

dovecot and pine tab-completion
Hello,
So, I'm migrating from Binc to Dovecot, and one of my users has run
into an odd complaint/issue. I don't know that it's a Dovecot issue
necessarily, but maybe the people here know a fix anyway...
The problem is that pine tab-completion now appends a "." to the end
of folders that have sub-folders. In other words, say the user has
these folders:

Thanks!
Hello,
I just recently switched my system from a BincIMAP/vpopmail to a
Dovecot/vpopmail system, and I have to say: thanks!
There were really only two things I had to patch Dovecot to do: first,
provide statistics on network usage, and second, to allow folders to
be LIST'd/SELECT'd/etc. with a trailing separator (to satisfy my pine
users). If anyone's interested, I can generate a

Mailbox is locked?
Hello,
I recently upgraded from Dovecot 1.1.8 to 1.1.14, and I've started to
get errors I never got before. Specifically, I'm getting "Mailbox is
locked, will abort in xx seconds" errors. My mail client (mutt) will
just sit there in the background (presumably in IDLE) and randomly
will show this error (I THINK it has something to do with delivering
new messages to the

namespaces and noselect
Hello,
I am trying to use two namespaces to create an "archival" directory
that is stored as mboxes (the rest of my tree is all stored as
maildirs). However, when I add the second namespace, suddenly Dovecot
starts emitting, in response to the LIST command, a second version of
the INBOX that is marked as \NoSelect. Here are my namespac
definitions... am I doing this wrong?
