wake up getamail on imap request
Hi,
i've set up a little mailserver for my homeoffice, and after some problems
everything works fine for me, I've some virtual users which get their mail
delivered via getmail, and I can access my mails from my windows mailclient.
The only issue I'm still facing is, that I don't like to run getmail as a
cronjob that connects to my online mailboxes every minute or so,

In my setup the load balancers do exactly this, and the director map the
same username/email (not the same source IP) to the same backend server.
Director setup is not so complex and I trust it

NFS vs Replication
Thank you all for replies!!!
Some missing infos...
- As load balancer I'm using a pair of keepalived with simple setup and
not the DNS
- Load balancer algorithm is "Weighted Least-Connection"
- About 20 domains and 3000 email
- I'm monitoring my backend servers with poolmon
- The backend servers are virtual machine (vmware) with datastore on
"all flash" storage

NFS vs Replication
...basically
have two independent servers that asynchronously sync emails.
While it would work with loadbalancers/keepalived/director they are not
necessary. If this is the way you want to go you should configure the
loadbalancer to always send the same source-ip to the same backend
(ip stickyness). Mailclients do open several connections in parallel
and they should see the same data.
With DNS this happens automatically because ips are rotated by resolvers
and the mailclient gets the same ip for all its connections. Failover
is builtin as mailclients just connect to the second ip when the first

Disable Dovecot LDA

Why should a disabled LDA or a relayhost help in this matter? Honestly, who is
sending what to where anyway?
I mean Dovecot is an IMAP-Server: It receives emails from Postfix and
mailclients connect to Dovecot to get these mails. When a mailclient sends an
email it connects to Postfix not to Dovecot, so a delivery "within Dovecot"
isn't really happening. Dovecot's LDA has options to send (bounce) mails back
to Postfix. I guess loops occur there?...

authentication troubles
hi
i have a strange problem with my dovecot installtion:
i configured it to accept digest-md5 authentication only but for some
reason mailclients (i tried mutt and thunderbird so far) want to log
with PLAIN (which fails of course).
authentication basically works, e.g. if i explicitly set
set imap_authenticators="digest-md5
in .muttrc everything works...
any idea what is going wrong?

SSL Client Certificate Support
Dear Timo,
most modern enterprises make use of a Public Key Infrastructure. It
would be nice to have dovecot check a client certificate instead of a
password. This makes life much easier and more secure.
Mail clients like Mozilla and MS Outlook do support this. What do you
think of the following feature request:
- Client authenticates with a certificate via SSL. (Like stunnel can)
- Dovecot

strange dropping of Word.doc-attachements - sendmail dovecot RHEL4
Hi,
we have a strange problem: two of our users informed me, that they
aren't able to send word-.doc-files anymore while othe attachements work
fine. The e-mail gets deliverd, but the attachement is dropped.
This happens using the latest thunderbird 1.5.x and mac os x. The e-mail
is also not saved in the send-drawer. If the users send the same e-mail
to the same recepient using an other

recalculation of maildir Quota
Hello,
I intend to use maildir Quota for measurement only, not for applying
restrictions. Therefore I defined rather high values. That's working as
expected. Nevertheless it's not useful, because the recalculation time
is to high. This takes some minutes for my own mailaccount with 250.000
mails on a NFS storage. This would be to bad, but whilst this time, the

Store ACL files within shared mailbox / rename shared folder problem
Hi.
If $otheruser shares a mailbox to $myuser, my private index is stored
in *my* Maildir, according to this template (from the dovecot docs):
mail_location = maildir:%%h/Maildir:INDEXPVT=%h/Maildir/shared/%%u
If $otheruser renames the shared mailbox, all my private mail flags
(Seen) are lost because my mailclient couldn't find the private index
anymore.
Is there any way to store the

Content-Enconding
Thank you for your quick feedback. I added it to my plugins in the
config. How can I make sure my mailclients are using it? Is there a way
to check this like I can check headers with additional Firefox plug-in
you may recomment?
Kind regards

Dovecot, pop3, mBox
I have to migrate some old system to new one with installed dovecot (It's my
first time using dovecot). I have all mails inside /var/spool/mail folder
(mbox files). I can connect and receive mails via POP3, but problem is that
dovecot doesn't clear mbox file (everytime when I make send/receive in
mailclient program I get all mails again).
If I look into log file I see (when I do

Mails "get lost" - RHEL 5.1 - dovecot-1.0-1.2.rc15.el5
Hi,
we do have a Voiceboxserver which forward recorded avi messages to the
mailserver account of users. I'v tested it for my account 10 minutes ago
and everything works.
Some users don't get the messages shown up in there mailclient while the
logs show a delivery of that mail.
May be some mail caches are messed up?
We use Thunderbird 2 and the users concerned use imap.
Where may I

Always 'new mail' false notifications?
Hi,
I just yesterday played around and installed dovecot. I like it a lot
(except for the lack of mysql support), but I have one issue I can't
seem to fix.
I am using mutt as my mailclient and mutt will alert me whenever new
mail has arrived in any mailfolder I have configured.
The thing is, that mutt continously signals me of new mail in all my
folders, when in reality nothing has entered

Need 2 additional folders like INBOX for JUNK and INFECTED mails
Hi there,
i need for JUNK & INFECTED mail two folders like INBOX.
The folders must be fixed in naming, permissions and so on.
I've adjusted some commands in the ./src/imap folder.
But it's work not really fine:
Creating a folder works, but deleting too. *smile*
Moving a "special-name-folder" (f.e. from Trash) to its correct place,
Dovecot says, that the folder

dovecot 1.0-test69 io hangs
I've been testing test69 with pop3 (under Linux and with mbox).
I began testing with a large inbox (11000 mails) and it seems the
communication between dovecot and the mailclient (evolution) stalls after
1000-2000 messages transferred.
I've looked in to the (non-trivial) io functionality of dovecot.
What I see is that io_loop_handler_run() in ioloop-poll.c does not
signal any more data
