Encrypted ASP.Net type viewstate
Does rails have any builtin functionality similar to that of ASP.Net''s encryptable ViewState? For those that don''t know what the ASP.Net viewstate is, it is essentially just a hidden form field with the name __VIEWSTATE, that stores a series of encoded(or encrypted) key/value pairs as it''s value. When the form is submitted the viewstate value is decoded/decrypted on the

Rails on straight CGI - doable?
I''m planning on dipping my toe into the rails ocean after having lurked here for a bit. From what I gather, rails *WILL* work on a straight CGI based server setup, it''s just slow, right? Since this is going to be for my own enlightenment, I just need to confirm(/deny) it''ll work at all right now; I''ll work on the "fast" later.

Fw: Sendmail vs. Postfix
...some great features, but I haven''t been able to determine that it has user-controllable settings and quarantines. For those folks that need more of a service provider approach as opposed to a corporate-friendly approach, or any combination of the two, check out Maia Mailguard: http://www.maiamailguard.com/ The two important features to me were the ability for users to control their own settings, and review their own quarantine. Maia''s based on amavisd-new, and as such can use both SpamAssassin, and DSPAM, as well as pyzor, razor, and dcc to aide in determining spam. Jacob Leaver Sen...

''Best'' IDE for testing and debugging
I''m trying to decide which IDE to go with for RoR development. I put a high premium on integrated test automated tools and debugging capabilities. I''d appreciate any sharing of experience. I''m currently running Instant Rails on a Windows 2000 box (using IR due to problems I encountered trying to get all the components set up individually). Also, I''m using

[OT] How do I convert maildir to bsmtp format?
Here's what I'm trying to do. I have a spam filtering operation as a front end for other servers. I've created a virtual server for spam storage where the user will be able to log in using squirrelmail/dovecot to review and release their spam. The email is stored in maildir format. Piecing it together I can use squirrelmail to pipe the email into something so that if a use finds a

unable to run script/console on OS X
Hi. Lighttpd''s merrily serving Rails on OS X for me, but I can''t for the life of me get script/console to run. I get, always: /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:18:in `require__'': No such file to load -- readline (MissingSourceFile) (And then a chain of errors leading from that point...) I followed Jason''s manuals.textdrive

The main purpose of this release is to offer an OS X gem that''s compatible with both 10.4 and 10.5 - The wxruby-1.9.3 OS X binary gem would only work with version 10.5 (Leopard). Version 1.9.4 also includes a couple of other minor fixes and enhancements, including * Some new AuiNotebook methods added in recent wxWidgets

So far i have created a small bit of the app, approx 10 tables. Im using webrick on my local machine. The Oracle DB is on its own server. My boss has noticed that its not really that zippy, there is a small delay between

Frustrated with RoR environment splintering
Why isnt the RoR community focusing on robust and scalable mod_perl style of Apache environment, rather then splintering all over the place with lighthttp, mongrel, WEBrick, SCGI, fcgi, etc??? Its frustrating as someone who is trying to migrate to RoR. Its very unlikely I would ever get a contract to work on any webserver except Apache, so it would seem logicaly to focus all our efforts to

Production environment for Rails on Win32, anyone interested for a binary release?
Hi all, as part of adopting Rails in my company I had to go through the hassle of setting up a Rails production environment on Win32 system since we mostly use MS SQL as our database back end and also because we mostly dealing with customers who become green-blue-purple as soon as you mention Unix/Linux and run for the door. I also need to mention that most of our web applications are internal and
