Hi. Lighttpd''s merrily serving Rails on OS X for me, but I can''t for the life of me get script/console to run. I get, always: /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:18:in `require__'': No such file to load -- readline (MissingSourceFile) (And then a chain of errors leading from that point...) I followed Jason''s manuals.textdrive instructions to install Ruby, Rubygems, Rails, the readline library, etc... What am I missing? How do I get script/console to see my readline library? Thanks...

Though I can''t remember how I fixed it at the moment, I''m pretty sure it had something to do with ruby, irb itself wouldn''t load. Paul. [1] http://manuals.textdrive.com/read/book/1

If you take a look at the output of your configure and/or make (can''t remember which one), there probably is some nag about readline. //jarkko -- Jarkko Laine http://jlaine.net http://odesign.fi _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails

I think it''s cause script/console relies on the gun readline library, which is installed but not being recognized for some reason. Thanks, cb

If you try to hit arrow-up in irb, I bet you won''t get previous commands because readline is not built into your irb. //jarkko> > Thanks, > cb > _______________________________________________ > Rails mailing list > Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org > http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails >-- Jarkko Laine http://jlaine.net http://odesign.fi _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails

The problem was that I installed readline after installing Ruby -- following the manuals.textdrive instructions -- when I should have reversed that order. I reversed it and everything''s good. By the way, what''s up with the crazy numbering of the Rails digest? Is it a symptom of some deeper problem, or am I just losing it?

Obviously, readline is not installed correctly... ;) If you have readline installed from a rpm type package, make sure you have the -devel package too. You may need that *before* installing ruby, so if that was missing, you may need to re-install ruby.
