"smbclient -M <machinename>" generates "session request failed" - why?
Hi All,
When I try to do "cat message.txt | smbclient -M <machinename>" or
"smbclient -M <machinename>", I get:
added interface ip=192.168.0.100 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0

Fairly sure I have said this already, but if I haven't, I will say it
now:
Do not use kinit to get the machines kerberos ticket, winbind has

Hi ,
FQDN of the DC is Hostname.DomainName .
In smb.conf:
netbios name = <HostName>
realm = <DomainName> eg: (ww.xx.yy.zz)
workgroup = ww
In resolve.conf
domain <DomainName>
nameserver <IP Address of the DC i.e host IP>
# host -t SRV _ldap._tcp.<DomainName>.
_ldap._tcp.<DomainName> has SRV record 0 100 389 <HostName>.<DomainName>.

dear samba community,
we have a big problem on joining a Samba 3.5.6 PDC.
Hopefully anyone has an idea/suggestion.
When trying to join with a Samba 4.2.10 or 4.3.9 we got the following

Help with ADS authentication and Samba
Hi there, just recently joined this list as I seem to be having a little trouble that I am hoping someone can help with.
I recently installed a RHEL5.5 server and updated samba to samba3-3.4.11-42.el5.x86_64.rpm. I had never set up samba to authenticate with ADS so I read a little bit and dove right in. The server now works fine, so when I browse to \\machinename<file:///\\machinename> no

Creating maching trust accounts
Hello,
I have created a machine trust account with the following command
'pdbedit -a -m -u machinename' and I noticed that after I execute the
following command 'pdbedit -L -v -u machinename', the Unix username is
in lowercase letters? Because when I attempt to join a domain with a
Windows 8.1 machine, it emits a error that it can't find the Machine
account? Does it

smbfs pc-netlink problem
I posted basically this problem yesterday with no response, but I have some
new information so here's a rego.
I mount a solaris box which is sharing files with pc-netlink
I use the following line in my fstab
//machinename/Share /mnt/machinename/share smbfs
credentials=/etc/fstabpwds/username,ro,user 0 0
And it mounts fine, I can access all the directories, and most of the files.

Samba, Kerberos, Autofs: Shares get disconnected
Hi Rowland
yes sure I know who user '0' is ;-)
so where should the ticket be then?
I just rebooted the PC and logged in via SSH as root. There is no ticket
for the machine :-(
even though, the Active Directory join seems to be OK, as "net ads
testjoin" says so.
I am still a bit lost on how I should proceed.
To have this all working more or less, I just mounted the shares with

I'm trying to track down why I can't seem to add a computer to the domain.
I've looked high and low to no avail. Right now, when I try to add the
computer as a "trusted machine," I've added it to the Unix passwd dB with
the appropriate machinename$ and the added the machine to the dmbpasswd
via:

Error creating machine account logs: Unable to open new log file /var/log/samba/machinename.log Permission denied
This problem doesn't seem to affect the client's connectivity but I am not
sure if it signals a larger problem. I started noticing this error:
Unable to open new log file /var/log/samba/"machine".log Permission denied
in the logs after upgrading to Samba version 3.0.21b. Any ideas?

Logon logging logs
I'm looking for a simple solution to log a single entry for each login
to a Samba PDC.
My current attempt(s) of using a root prexec script in either the
[netlogon] share definition or the [global] section are working, but not
exactly as expected.
In [netlogon] I have an entry:
root preexec = /path/to/script/makelogonscript.pl %g %u %m %I
