an unwanted chroot() call
...g that a chroot() call failed.
My config file does *not* have any chroot call in it.
How can I avoid a chroot() invocation when running as a normal non-root
user?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Folks,
I am using 2.9p2, but Markus Friedl said to submit this, so I didn't bother
upgrading and
re-checking the problem.
When you ssh -R, and the remote port that you are trying to forward is already
forwarded,
the forwarding that you request with the -R option will fail, but the only...

state of ide raid
Hello,
While shopping for another 3Ware card, I found that this market has gotten
much larger since I bought my 6500. So I started looking at the various
cards while browsing the hardware notes for FreeBSD 4.8 and 5.1.
So I'm wondering if anyone can provide some insight here.
-3Ware has a whole new series of cards. The twe(4) manpage states that
only 5xxx and 6xxx series cards are

rsync alternatives for large mirrors?
Anyone here ever use or see any tools (free or commercial) that are
similar to rsync but maybe provide a little more in the way of reporting
features? I'm looking into some possible alternatives to a system I have
scratched together using rsync. I'm bumping into some issues involved
more on the backend of my system (stats on directory structures and
contents) which is limiting the amount

smbpasswd -a failure
Hello,
I am trying to run Samba 2.2.8a in an embedded linux system and
running into problems with smbpasswd. With both smbd and nmbd
processes running fine ( the log files at log level 3 don't show
errors),
when I try to add a user to the smbpasswd file I get the following
error.
# smbpasswd -a pbathini

I was trying to improve the performance of BackupPC
http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to
Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently
running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only
getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when
