cups printing
I have searched around the samba documentation, including the smb.conf man
page, and have found nothing regarding the cups printing system except
change printcap to cups. Now, I have done that, but printing still does
not work. I need some types of details and a sample smb.conf and/or any
other relevant documentation.
Thanks much,

Driver Download with Foomatic-PPDs: Win2K Client says "Device settings cannot be displayed" if PPD's TranslationString longer than 40 chars
Hi, Samba list readers,
I am forwarding these mails from one of the Linuxprinting.org lists to
you (with the $SUBJECT changed by me), because surely some of you must
have been bitten by this too....
This problem is verified on W2K (but not yet for NT/ME/XP/9x).
Cheers,
Kurt

Printing via smbprint to a WinPrinter
...o a printer connected to a Windows ME machine. I'm able to connect via smbclient, with
smbclient //windowsme/printer -U '' -N
and I receive the smb> prompt
Now, when I try to print any file, nothing comes out from the printer. The printer is a Canon LBP-810 which, according to
www.linuxprinting.org site, is a WinPrinter. My question is: is it possible to have that printer running in the configuration I
mentioned or not?
Thank you all in advance.

How to install Windows printer driver on WINE ?
In Windows platform, I can install Windows printer driver and "Add Printer".
How do I do it if I use WINE ?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Note : The reason I need to install Windows printer driver on WINE is that I
do not have the Linux printer driver for that specific printer.

Slow windows -> cups print - CONCLUSION
...When we're installing the drivers from adobe there's a part where we must
"Select the Printer Model". By default it uses the "Generic Postscript Printer"
(it has an associated PPD for that). We must get a PPD for our printer
(installed on the linux server) from the www.linuxprinting.org, click the
"Browse" button and select that PPD. After that you'll have a new printer
installed an all will work like a charm.
Note:
Inside the PPD of my printer (HP OfficeJet 5110) I had these line (despite all
the others :) ):

Printer sleep mode problem
Dear group,
I have a Samsung ML-1740 laser printer connected to an OpenBSD 3.5 server using a USB connection. The printer is accessed from
Windows PCs through Samba 3.0.14a and CUPS (using raw printer driver).
The problem I am having is that after my printer goes into power save mode (a desired feature, I only print 2-3 times a week) I
always have to send two print jobs; one to "wake"

Server-side printer settings?
Hi all!
I have a situtation that I want to get happening:
We have just installed a colour photocopier with duplexing at a client's
office. We're looking to have four printers pointing at this one device,
with the following settings (one for each printer):
* Black and White
* Black and White, Duplexed
* Colour
* Colour Duplexed
My question is, can we have server-side settings for

...n one server.
If I configure samba and cups in the RAW mode using windows original
drivers of the printers, everything works fine, but this way I can't use
cups accounting.
So I reinstaled all my printers in cups using their PPD (using
redhat printconf) , and followed the tutorial in linuxprinting.org
(http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/Samba-HOWTO-Colle
ction-3.0-PrintingChapter-11th-draft.html). But even if I got no errors
in the process I can't print from my windows using the cups postscript
drivers.
Let me tell what have I done, and how.

Printing problem with CUPS and lp/lpr
I know that printing on Linux is somewhat of an art form, but I have
a fairly simple problem. I used the following command to configure a
networked printer (HP LaserJet 8150):
lpadmin -p name -E -v socket://name -m laserjet.ppd -u allow:all -
u deny:none
This added and enabled the printer, and I can print to it using the
print command from within a GUI application and PostScript

"Additional Drivers" and Print Window Refresh
I have RTFM'd, so excuse me if I missed something in the manual. :)
1) When I attempt to add additional drivers (the inital driver worked just
fine, when using the instructions in John's HOWTO), I get the following
error:
"The printer driver you selected is either not compatible with your
current version of Windows, or it may not be available. Select a

Samba 3.0 and the HP PSC 750 printer (printing over cups)
hi all,
i have samba 3.0 on a fedora-linux running. almost everyting works fine,
except one printer, my hp psc 750 (connected via usb) is not printing via
samba.
I get pages printed (via cups or whatever) if i print from the localhost.
So, here a few data from my smb.conf:
printcap name = cups
printing = cups
load printers = yes

Letter instead of A4 with driver installed via Samba's Point'n'Print
...ght be more a question about Samba. According (hopefully) to these howtos I have setup printers and prepared their cups postscript drivers to be installed automatically via Samba and the so called Point'n'Print method:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-456501-highlight-.html
http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/Samba-HOWTO-Collection-3.0-PrintingChapter-11th-draft.html
Everything works pretty well except that a new windows client that installs the driver tries to print out as Letter instead of A4. I can then change this setting and it is correctly saved, but only on this part...

The scariest set up of all: Printer Support
...hey didn't
make that really clear up front, they just tell you that commercial
users must pay and consumers can use for free.
Anyway, I decided to look for different alternatives. I came across a
web site that said that my printer model could work under a different
Canon driver:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/pipermail/canon-list/2004q4/001797.html
But, and here's the heart of my question, I can't find any place to make
changes to my printer configuration. According to some web sites I
looked at, I should have a printer configuration application in my menu,
under "Preferences"....

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing
works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why
can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared
directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google
and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.
