Samba 3.0.7 on Linix/Sparc
Hello all. I'm having a very odd problem that I can't solve and I
hopinig someone here can help me. I have the latest samba package
installed onto my sparc. Samba is configured for a PDC role with all
appropriate machine and user accounds. A Win2K client can authenticate
perfectly against the box, get credentials, login to the workstation,
etc. A user can browse through shares and

Recovering emails from "dead" server
I have a Linix server that won't boot. I've patched in a live CD and
mounted the original HDDs so I can browse the files using SSH.
I am trying to find where all my customer emails are stored so that I can
(hopefully) copy them off this "dead" server onto a new server which is also
running c...

mounting share on NT server
yes another Linix newbie.. :) I'm wanting to mount a shared
folder on an NT file server. The network includes a NT PDC,
NT file server, 98 machines and the one Linux box. I've
found a lot of HOWTO's on Samba but most are in the
direction of Samba being the server not the client. I can

SAMBA PDC with LDAP backend syncing unix/samba accounts ...
Hi all ,
I'm running Debian Etch . I just finished
configuring SAMBA
as PDC to authenticate against LDAP server which works.
The system in question uses default debian etch packages.
As My Linix/unix accounts can authenticate against it. The
LDAP works.
I Used the default shipped smbldap-populate script to
setup SAMBA.
Everything seems to work as Anonymous User or as
user root.
shark:/etc/samba# smbclient -L shark -N
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[LDAPBIOMAX] OS=[Unix] Ser...

Fax->Email for Hosted PBX
I'm proposing to install an Asterisk PBX at a collocation facility for a
remote customer. Each of the customer locations will have an SPA-3000
with the FXO port connecting a POTS circuit and the FXS port connecting
a fax machine or red phone.
In addition to voice traffic, the customer has a high volume of incoming
and outgoing faxes.
Would it be possible, using g711 between the SPA-3000

Linux and Solaris performance
We have an interesting quandry here. When I'm rsync'ing my directory
tree (100 directories each containing 1000 files) I see some strange
results:
All of these machines are on their own network segment (100t) in our QA
lab
Solaris->Solaris - time taken: 11m32s
Solaris->RH Linux 7.2 - time taken: 206s
RH Linux->Rn Linux - time taken 1m59s
In each instance I have rsync running

Are linux distros redundant?
I know this much, Scientific Linux shutting down?....is a definite sign!
(And I've loved SL from my first foray into Linix....in 2002!) sad to see
my "personal favorite" as a server OS going away ?. I mean ...I guess I
should be happy that CEntOS is still here...(for now?) but what if "Big
Blue" decides to swallow up "Code Red"?...wonder where that would leave me
in my search for a server...

Strange behaviour on Win98
I am currently trying to integrate a Samba v2.2.5 server into an NT domain.
I have already succeeded to join the server into the domain and have
authentication working (security = DOMAIN), but when I'm trying to
access it from a Win98 client, it sometimes says "network name not
found", although the server is visible in the "network neighbourhood".
Then, after waiting a

have that quit statement in my .First so that I always quit that way
interactively. The problem is that it is ignored in batch.

The crash occurs on my 586 running Red Hat Linux 2.0.27 but not on
my son's 486 running SLackware Linix 2.0.29. We both have the same
most recent libraries installed (libc, libm, etc).
I started looking in the eispack C code and traced down the
problem. In three of the four Fortran calls in eigen, (ch,rs,cg but
not rg), the same vector (vals) is used for the return eigenvalues as
for two or three...

Agent 3.3 on Linux?
I dual boot WinXP and Fedora Linux and would like to run Agent 3.3 when
I boot to Fedora. Has anyone successfully installed WINE (codeweavers?)
on Linux and gotten the current Agent to function? What has your
experience been? What problems have you encountered?
I've seen very little discussion in the newsgroup. The web page that
Mark Prince pointed to a few years ago is no longer active:

Build your own "appliance" concept
I've been working on this the past few days and thought I would put it out
there to see if anyone else has interest in it. It really has nothing to do
with the Digium appliance, I've just been looking for some mass produced
solid state hardware to run small branch offices off of for awhile now and I
think I've finally landed on something I like.
Basically I've taken an HP thin
