Libnss-mdns problem
Hi there! I've got a problem with running wine under Debian. When i try to start a download following comes : root:~# wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Valve/HLServer/HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game brink ~/server/brink It appears that libnss-mdns is installed on your system, but lib32nss-mdns is not. Please note that Wine will not be able to access the Internet unless you either install lib32nss-mdns (or ia32-libnss-mdns), or uninstall libnss-mdns. So what i have to do now to get i working? Fwd: getent group fails - fixed
Found it. It turns out that the config file for libnss-ldap is /etc/libnss-ldap.conf on my distro (Debian). So NSS was ignoring the config that I had been in /etc/ldap/ldap.conf and taking it from /etc/libnss-ldap.conf. The former had this "nss_base_group ou=Groups,dc=example,dc=co,dc=uk?sub" and the latter this nss_base_group ou=group,dc=exa...

dovecot and libnss-ldap
Hi, I've been using dovecot 0.99.14 for a few years, with libpam-ldap and libnss-ldap, and never experienced any problem with those. I expect to soon switch to dovecot 1.0rc15 (or whatever gets available in Debian Etch, hopefuly dovecot 1.0), but I've seen some warnings against dovecot+libnss-ldap... Is the problem with libnss-ldap a recent problem (I mean it was not a pro...

Thank you for your quick response again! Yes, I have libpam-winbind and libnss-winbind. I just today noticed (due to a typo in my test yesterday :() that some accounts do work! Apparently mine, which are in a special group in AD are not showing up. Apparently roughly half gets returned...

libnss-ldap vs winbind?
...be better to use ActiveDirectoriy (the PDC and all other servers are win2000). What is the difference in both approaches? which is 'better'? I feel that ldap is the more general and cleaner solution. Is that true? My windows-admins will get rid of wins soon. does winbind rely on wins? can libnss-ldap also create pseudo UIDs and GIDs?

getent passwd blank response
I have an issue that "getent passwd SAMDOM\usrname" returns a blank response. Running "getent passwd" returns all the local users. I cannot determine if the libnss-winbind symbolic links exist. This is a member server running Debian 10 with Samba v4.12.5 via Louis' repos. The Sambawiki /Libnss winbind Links/ page shows Debian x86_64 source location as "/usr/local/samba/lib/libnss_winbind.so.2". root at mbr04:~# find / -name libnss_winbind.s...

[OT] OpenLDAP dynamic groups with samba/libnss
...using Debian Lenny with samba 3.4.7 (from Debian backports), and although my 'getent group GRP' is working perfect, 'id user' and samba are not seeing user as part of GRP (even if getent is properly reporting user as part of GRP). Documentation is not really helping. I'm using libnss-ldap, pam_ldap and RFC2307bis, it would be great if you could contact me off-list. samba ad + which additional packages
...messages: *SPNEGO login failed: An internal error occurred.* *session setup failed: NT_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR* I finally got it to work after hours of trial and error to find out that I just have to install additional packages. Since I am using: "krb5-user krb5-config winbind libpam-winbind libnss-winbind" and of course samba. Now, my Question is, which packages do I need for samba to work as a domain controller? Thanks for clarification. Regards, Johannes

Using Samba 4.7.4 as a domain member
Hi! I've installed samba 4.7.4 with options. All works fine except winbind. The command getent and id don't return ad users. What's the problem? ./configure --prefix=/opt/samba --libdir=/lib64 --with-piddir=/run/samba --with-pammodulesdir=/lib64/security --enable-fhs --without-ad-dc --enable-selftest

Yes, the libnss_winbind.so is in place. PAM is irrelevant in this situation. The OS is Arch Linux. So having taken your golden advice and removed those lines.... Login in linux using ad accounts

Not quite, you haven't said what distro you are running, but you need to set up the libnss winbind links, on Debian you can easily do this by installing the the libnss-winbind & libpam-winbind packages, you must also add 'winbind' to the 'passwd' & 'group' lines in /etc/nsswitch.conf Rowland
