Hi there, I'm newbie in Samba, so I beg for your excuse if my questions are stupid. Is it possible to use Samba as a "paid-for-print" server? If U know something about another free "paid-for-print" software, please let me know. 10x in advance, -- Julian

"Additional Drivers" and Print Window Refresh
I have RTFM'd, so excuse me if I missed something in the manual. :) 1) When I attempt to add additional drivers (the inital driver worked just fine, when using the instructions in John's HOWTO), I get the following error: "The printer driver you selected is either not compatible with your current version of Windows, or it may not be available. Select a compatible driver from the

Letter instead of A4 with driver installed via Samba's Point'n'Print
...tion about Samba. According (hopefully) to these howtos I have setup printers and prepared their cups postscript drivers to be installed automatically via Samba and the so called Point'n'Print method: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-456501-highlight-.html http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/Samba-HOWTO-Collection-3.0-PrintingChapter-11th-draft.html Everything works pretty well except that a new windows client that installs the driver tries to print out as Letter instead of A4. I can then change this setting and it is correctly saved, but only on this particular client...

CUPS for KDE
...ction with usb, etc. When I installed and configured in GNOME every thing seemed to be fine. When entering KDE it automatically adds two printers and generally brings the printer out of work. I have figured out that I am missing this support according to this link: http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/LinuxKongress2002/Tutorial/VII.cups-help/VII.cups-help.html#L732 Is this correct? And where can i find this package including those files? kai

Why I can't set some default printer options for my HP 1015 + CUPS printer ??
Hi, Everyone! I've installed samba + print$ driver + cups successfully on my Debian Box, and I've made a simple page count program for the printed PCL and postscript files, it runs nicesly, but one problem I encountered is that I can't check the "Advanced " option on for the samba printer (I've tried to check them, but it does not take effect), while I can do it well

Setting up CUPS for Samba on 390
I've scoured the newsgroups and asked MANY people, does anyone out there have any ideas ? I'm new to the CUPS arena and I'm trying to figure out what to do from the separate docs. I'm using SLES7 (2.4.7 kernel). The files I'm using are: 4368072 May 22 06:22 cups-1.1.19rc5-source.tar.gz 197341 May 22 06:22 cups-samba-1.1.19rc2.tar.gz 4961128 May 22 07:58

Major Printing Failure Problem
Hi everyone, I am using Samba 2.2.3a on a Redhat Linux 7.2 Intel server as a printserver on a W2K PDC network. I have a Xerox 440 printer, an HP 4500 PS and an HP 4550 PS printer using my Samba printserver. I am often receiving the following error message: ERROR: syntaxerror OFFENDING COMMAND: STACK: at which point printing stops and the printers start saying TIMEOUT. Sometimes I can reprint

...in the RAW mode using windows original drivers of the printers, everything works fine, but this way I can't use cups accounting. So I reinstaled all my printers in cups using their PPD (using redhat printconf) , and followed the tutorial in linuxprinting.org (http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/Samba-HOWTO-Colle ction-3.0-PrintingChapter-11th-draft.html). But even if I got no errors in the process I can't print from my windows using the cups postscript drivers. Let me tell what have I done, and how. Software : Redhat 9.0 Cups 1.1.17 (rpm) Samba 2...

Samba+CUPS+Driver autodownload
Hi, I'm trying to get Samba to offer the Adobe driver automatically for the two printers I have set up with CUPS. I have all of the necessary files plucked out of the Adobe Postscript Windows driver package, but I'm hitting the problem when I come to run "cupsaddsmb -v ..." that the "rpcclient adddrivers" command always fails with NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL. The drivers

Problem with print$
Ok...I'm stuck. Environment: Suse 8.0, with Samba 2.2.3a, no domain controller (workgroup only). Client machine is NT4 Workstation, SP5. Access to disk shares is fine, no problems, using encrypted PWs. I'm trying to set up a [print$] share, as described in chapter 6 of the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. The symptom that I get is that when I attempt to load the driver to the print$ share, I

cupsaddsmb - why the heck can't I get rpcclient-addprinter to work?
I can't seem to get the rpcclient-addprinter to work - grrrrrr It looks like the drivers files are copied correctly and the NT drivers are added correctly but the addprinter command says it's unsuccessful! rpcclient localhost -N -U JOHNSON\\root -c 'enumprinters' shows the printer!! What's going on? I've tried removing /var/cache/samba/ntdrivers.tdb

Hi, I have updated the Draft for the Printing Chapter of the new Samba 3.0 HOWTO-Collection. The version now is 0.94beta9. This is from the document's Changelog: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 06-05-2003: a lot of typos corrected -- most is spellchecked now che...

Samba] printer driver option
...as been deprecated for later > releases. > > So going forward, what can I replace this option with? Does it hurt > anything if left alone? Samba's printing support has changed so much since the 2.0.7 days that you need to check out this document: http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/ Samba has changed from being a "Windows 95 workstation sharing a printer" to a fully fledged "NT print server" and more. You certainly wouldn't expect a Windows-95-only user (or admin) to run an NT print server from the moment of the switch without some pr...
