[SECURITY] preventing Hwaddr spoofing on bridge
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512
Is there a way to prevent hwaddr/mac address spoofing between DomU''s?
So in a way ''binding'' a mac-address on boot time with a virtual
interface? (with something like ebtables/arptables/etc?)

Skype 4 Linux
Hi All,
Since 21 june skype is available to be used on Linux, with a static
binary, which includes QT, of 8 meg its big.
http://www.skype.com/help_linux_faq.html
I presume, with some hacking, there could be a possibility to use the
Skype program as a Channel. (Eq. Skype is started, and with a visual
scripting thing a connection is made and Asterisk connects via OSS (or the

Dual mono not stereo
Hi,
If I want to encode two audio channels that are not related, audio from
two different sources not stereo, is it best to create two instances of
a single channel encoder or use one encoder with two channels?
thank you,
Paul.

vcpus higher than real cpus possible?
Hello, i have just migrated machine to xen server where only 2 cpus are
available. I have copied config from machine where domU was located before.
That machine had 4 CPUS (QUADCORE), current machine has 2 CPUS (1 XEON
2cores).
I have forgot to change vcpus from 4 to 2 in config, but .. what really
surprised me ... machine started . How it is possible? It was really slow

Introduction + Patch
Hi,
I'm new here so an introduction. I'm Stefan de Konink, I have a diverse
past, present and future in coding, content creation and a background in
speech research. As introduced on #celt I want to do some promotion for
the codec.
I was positively surprised by the availability of something 'almost
done' and totally usable in the form of celt...

RESOLVED: Debian Xen + Broadcom NetXtreme II (IBM x3655 7985-AC1)
I have a new x3655 IBM and whenever the /etc/xen/scripts/network-bridge
script starts, the ethernet would no longer work. This post isn''t about
the cause, but the fix. I did a lot of tcpdumps and Googling, but I''ll
spare you that. All they do is prove that yes, there is an issue. :)
I tried Debian 4.0 i386/amd64 and Ubuntu 7.04 Server i386/amd64 and they
all exhibit the

how to boot domU XEN guest in safe mode?
Hi all,
How can I boot a XEN domU guest into safe mode? One of our servers was
forcefully shutdown, and it seems like one of my VM''s could be
corrupt, or something.
When I boot it up, I get the following on the console:
Creating root device.
Mounting root filesystem.
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.

Multichannel coding
Hi Jean-Marc,
It was discussed before, when multichannel streams are encoded; taken
multiple instances of the encoder where the input is not correlated. Is
there a way to pack the result of all channels again? Or maybe do
something more efficient in the first place on multichannel streams?

Call back when no longer busy
Hello, I'm trying to implement a function available on the PSTN net here, if
you dial a number which is busy and you press 5, you will be called back
when the busy party hangs up.
Figuring out if a SIP user is busy isn't to hard, ${DIALSTATUS} produces a
BUSY message, however, how can I implement the call back?
IE, I dial to extension 712, but that extension is busy, I dial 5 and

What goes to Hardware ?
Hi people,
As I said before: I did the IDCT to run on the FPGA.
My friends from university did the Reconstruction routines running on the FPGA.
I'm helping with the LoopFilter, and it is almost there.
(all VHDL)
I did a small profiling of the libTheora running on a Altera Stratix II device:
The processor used was the NIOS II with 8Kb of data and instruction
cache, branch prediction and

Large server, Xen limitations
Hi,
we''re contemplating getting a large new server, where we will run a number
of
virtual servers. Are there any things we need to keep in mind in that
case? Are
there limitations on what a Xen system can manage?
We''re talking about a 4 x Quad core CPU server with 64 GBs of RAM and a
couple of terabytes of RAIDed SATA storage.

bandwidth limiting - vif "rate" option
Hello everybody,
i have found, that i can limit the OUTGOING bandwidth with the option
"rate=" (e.g. rate=250KB/s) at the vif line in my sxp-file.
I have tested it, it is working good, but why it is "only" limiting the outgoing bandwidth ?
Is there any easy way to limit the incoming bandwidth too, something like the obove option ?
My network setup is bridged.

Xen and iSCSI - options and questions
Hello,
I have a small Xen farm of 8 dom0 servers with 64 virtual machines running para-virtualized and this has been working great. Unfortunately, I''ve hit a limit: my iSCSI hardware supports only 512 concurrent connections and so I''m pretty much at the limit. (Wish I would have seen that problem sooner!)
Of course, 87% of those connections are idle-- but necessary because I

NetApp vfiler example scripts
Hi,
For anyone who is interested; I created some basic scripts based on my
current iSCSI block script.
http://kinkrsoftware.nl/contrib/xen/block-netapp
http://kinkrsoftware.nl/contrib/xen/netapp-lun.py
Basically these two scripts allow you to start a vfiler with a qtree of
customers. You log in the NetApp upon boot, and can use:
netapp://customer1/disk1
It is work in progress... because I

dump-file per source per mount
...in the <mount> section of the
icecast.xml file:
<dump-file>/tmp/dump-example1.ogg</dump-file>
But I prefer to use streamripper which can do this easily on a client side:

...last 'normal frame' so the new file gets a keyframe first.
What would be a proper way to do this? Start a new thread that keeps track
of the time and does the events per mount? Since this could be a broader
used thread should this be a feature request or up to me?

QCOW - good choice?
Hi,
I want to ask if anyone of you is familiar with QCOW and has used this
with xen?
I''ve googled a bit about and could''nt really find out if it''s a good
choice or not.
Has anyone experience with usage in xen and can say something about
performance
and snapshot usability?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Xen benchmark
Hi all,
I''ve performed a benchmark on my server to compare performance with
and without Xen, and with and without domUs active. I used lmbench to
measure basic hardware operations on math and memory, and system
calls like mmap(), fork(), exec().
The results are at http://drainbamage.nl/2009/04/05/xen-benchmark/ .
It seems that Xen adds significant overhead to process creation
