dividing vectors into bins with equal widths

This works as I want. However, I can't extract which points are in which bin, or where
the breakpoints are made.
Can anybody help?

Plots of envfit (vegan) - placing of vector labels
...r, alternatively, is it possible to plot vectors only, so that the
labels can be placed with 'text' later?

components for intercept and slope?

...round (2.5) = 2.
As a non-mathematician I am both puzzled and intrigued by this rule as
it is against what I have learned in my math courses, i.e.
round(1.5) = 2
round (2.5) = 3.
I would like to understand the reason behind this rule.

B-W stacked area chart with pattern

not sufficient to clearly distinguish between species. I would thus like
to use different pattern (or texture) for this purpose. I have searched
the various help lists on graphics in R but was unable to find something
appropriate.

...lotrix) does not seem to
work when using a logarithmic axis. The table is then reduced to one
line. Is there an argument to indicate that a log-scale is used, or an
alternative to add a bunch of information to a plot?
I'm using R 2.6.1 on WinXP SP2.
