Centos OS Crash Recovery, Inquiry.
...minimize the read/write to the disk. The more writes done the less likely recovery will be possible. Also, know whether you just want to recover data or rebuild the OS structure. Former is easier/cheaper than the latter in most cases. -- Fred On Wed, Nov 2, 2016 at 10:20 PM, Keith Keller < kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us> wrote: > On 2016-11-03, Christopher G. ...y the patch, it fails on one of the hunks (I don't have the exact error, I can grab it later if important). Has anyone had success with this on CentOS 7.4, either with this compile, or the one documented by ELRepo (which I haven't tried yet)? https://elrepo.org/tiki/wl-kmod --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

I'm so old. Now anybody can go from a 2.6 to a 3.11 kernel in less than ten minutes!) --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

Is there a little setup display right on the box? Just asking because I have seen that on some boxes. Cheers, Boris. ...is is a good idea. Does anyone else run a CentOS (not necessarily 7) on Apple hardware, particularly laptops (and not in a VM)? If so, any pointers on making life easier? TBH I don't really know exactly what I want to use it for yet, so suggestions there would be helpful too. --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

...osplus kernel. (Of course I can get the kernel to the machine in other ways, but over the network is by far the most convenient.) See https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=7359 for more details. I've done other web searches but found nothing more specific than this link. Thanks! --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

Help with at Bash script

This is an error you can't blame on your device. domain is not a file, but a bash variable. read takes stdin (which is what the OP's snippet is doing) and populates the named variable(s) (domain in this case). --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

...desktop in a long time so I'm very much out of practice. So far, after the first hiccups, CentOS 7 has been much faster on the old MBP than OS X is. I'm optimistic that I can find a use for it, even if it's just having a laptop I can use if my family wants the new MBP. --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

I have done a bunch of searches on the CentOS forums and on the web, but didn't find anything specific to this issue with various combinations of the error message keywords. Centos OS Crash Recovery, Inquiry.
Actually, I am not sure if we have a backup, because honestly, I am not that very much familiar with Centos. We use it for our mail sever for zimbra and other web servers but after setting it up, as long it is working just fine we don't do any other thing. Does it have an automatic backup system? And if it does, how can we use it to restore it back? Thanks. Regards, CHRIS ----- Original

...is sort of issue. Other thoughts/suggestions? Any ideas why I'd be seeing this particular boot behavior? It's not something I've seen before; either booting fails before even reaching isolinux, or the kernel panics on finding some exotic and/or broken piece of hardware. --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... If that'll be challenging, I'll just sacrifice those files, but if it'd be relatively straightforward I'd like to make the attempt. Thanks again! --keith -- kkeller@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

reboot - is there a timeout on filesystem flush?
...um mount count or a check > interval. If Les is having to run fsck manually, as he wrote in his OP, then this is unlikely to be the cause of the issues he described in that post. There must be some sort of errors on the filesystem that caused the unattended fsck to exit nonzero. --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us

And if I do, what steps should I do differently (e.g., use the latest e2fsck right away; don't e2fsck, get files off quickly, and mke2fs; something else)? --keith -- kkeller@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us
