WCTDM-24xxp woes
I am currently running Asterisk 1.2.8, on an AMD Sempron 3100+ (ASUS K8N
Nforce based board). I am using a Digium wctdm24xxp to terminate 8 (2x
quad) FXO lines. Using ztmonitor (From zapata) I cannot see that there is
any registerable incoming volume from these lines. I've been running them
at rxgain = 25 (zapata.conf) to make the audio audible, however this
creates poor call quality issues

shutting down a mysql server renders cdr_mysqldead and asterisk nolonger makes or receives calls
Not res_config_mysql cdr_addon_mysql. All it does is log call detail
records. According to bug http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=4749
cdr_addon_mysql should not behave in this way. Therefore 1. there is no
realtime DB besides ASTDB storage of SIP phones, and 2. CDR is not a
life-or-death situation for asterisk, if it stops asterisk should
continue and replicate later (the year-old bug cited

[PATCH] use reliable nfs mount options per default
Peter,
we found that nfs over udp will corrupt data under very extrem load,
there is no way to fix it due to the way how UDP works.
TCP will not have these problems.
I also wonder why the package size is only 1k. Everyone who wishes a
slow connection can pass the desired options via the kernel cmdline.
Everyone else prefers probably the fast mount.
The defaults should look more like that:

[PATCH] virtio_net: Add schedule check to napi_enable call
From: "Bruce Rogers" <brogers at novell.com>
Under harsh testing conditions, including low memory, the guest would
stop receiving packets. With this patch applied we no longer see any
problems in the driver while performing these tests for extended periods
of time.
Make sure napi is scheduled subsequent to each napi_enable.

LPRng security
Hi all,
I just looked into LPRng to see to what extent it is affected by the
problems recently reported for the BSD lpd. It seems that it is fairly
safe from those mentioned in the SNI advisory.

Disappearing voicemail
Asterisk 1.2, Fedora Core 4:
When I leave a voicemail message, it writes the necessary files to the INBOX:
msg0000.gsm
msg0000.txt
msg0000.wav
msg0000.WAV
When I hang up, the files are erased. There is no indication of anything
untoward in the logs:
-- x=0, open writing: [...]/INBOX/msg0000 format: wav49, 0x99ce778
-- x=1, open writing: [...]/INBOX/msg0000 format:

Yet another attempt at /tmp spoof protection
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hi all,
Prompted by Mark''s discussion of the transname patch I''ve put together
an experimental patch to the Linux nfsd that supports something I''ve named
CDFs for lack of a more appropriate name. They''re not real CDFs, and in
particular, they won''t let you manage stuff like shared /etc directories
for diskless

shutting down a mysql server renders cdr_mysql dead and asterisk nolonger makes or receives calls
At approximately 3:15pm I shut down the office MySQL server to change
out some hardware. Shortly after I received a call from one of two
customers whose asterisk servers output CDR data to that server. They
could not place or receive calls. Shortly after that I received a call
from the other customer. I'm below providing output from the message
log (At debug level). I don't see much

Yet Another DIP Exploit?
I seem to have stumbled across another vulnerability in DIP. It
appears to allow any user to gain control of arbitrary devices in /dev.
For instance, I have successfully stolen keystrokes from a root login as
follows... (I could also dump characters to the root console)
$ whoami
cesaro
$ cat < /dev/tty1 <------ root login here
bash: /dev/tty1: Permission denied
