Re: How to insert styles with Insertion (David Kaufman)
I dont think its is allowed according to the W3C standards to have <style> sections inside the <body>. Keep that in mind when insering css-style-sections. ;-) -Tommy > > WJRANKIN-J6ISH/MDR2c@public.gmane.org wrote: > > Hi, > > > > I''m having difficulty using Prototype''s Insertion method to insert > > styles into a document node. PAM clustering (using triangular matrix)
...t this algorithms can only accept a dissimilarity matrix, normally generated by daisy(). However, daisy only accept 'data matrix or dataframe. Dissimilarities will be computed between the rows of x'. Is there any way to say to that your data are already a similarity matrix (triangular)? In Kaufman and Rousseeuw's FORTRAN implementation (1990), they showed an option like this one: "Maybe you already have correlations coefficients between variables. Your input data constist on a lower triangular matrix of pairwise correlations. You wish to calculate dissimilarities between the variab...

I will look for the books and articles below, of course, but I think I may have difficulty getting hold of the Kaufman book, at least. "FANNY" function in R package "cluster"
Dear All, I am attempting to use the FANNY fuzzy clustering function in R (Kaufman & Rousseeuw, 1990), found in the "cluster" package. I have run into a variety of difficulties; the two most crucial difficulties are enumerated below. 1. Where is the 'm' parameter in FANNY? acts_as_habtm_list plugin
I''d like to announce acts_as_habtm_list plugin for rails. acts_as_habtm_list is a Ruby on Rails plugin, that can manage ordered lists through a join-table. It is providing almost the same Api as acts_as_list. The position column has to be defined in the join table. You can find additional information at: http://www.inlet-media.de/acts_as_habtm_list/ Install it executing this command

I've pondered on this over the week-end, but don't see an easy way to handle this. Thanks! Eddie Mikell Senior Systems Engineer The Rimm-Kaufman Group

animation without intermediate files?
Hello, Does anyone know how to make "movies" in R by making a sequence of plots? I'd like to animate a long trajectory for exploratory purposes only, without creating a bunch of image files and then using another program to string them together. In Splus I would do this using double.buffer() to eliminate the flickering caused by replotting. For instance, with a 2-D trajectory

Diff tool for OSX
I''ve looked for DIFF tools for OSX but haven''t found anything good yet. Tried guiffy (http://www.guiffy.com) but it''s very slow and the folder comparison doesn''t indicate a change until you drill down to the level with the difference which kinda defeats the purpose. I''m missing TortoiseSVN and the diff tool that comes with it. Any suggestions for

Multiv / hierclust / plclust
I use hierclust (hierarchical clustering) in multiv package. In the documentation it is said that plclust (plotting a dendrogram) is available in S-plus. Can I find it anywhere (I have searched through http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/S and found only quotations of plclust in multiv) or is it only part of the S package (which I don't have)? Rails 3 with Mongrel possible?
After much fiddling and googling, it seems to me that Mongrel, even the 1.2.0pre2 release is not compatible with Rails 3 -- is that true? When I start up a new Rails 3 project (i.e. one fresh after a `rails new` command), mongrel appears to start (creates a pid file, and reports no errors on the CLI), but the app does not load in the browser and I find this in the mongrel.log

Avery Lables, PDF::Writer or LaTex?
In a new app we are developing, we need to be able to dynamically create a PDF and send it to the browser (inline with send_data). I have been tinkering with PDF::Writer and love the simplicity and native ruby-ness of it all. However, one of the main uses for this functionality is to output a PDF of addresses to be printed on Avery 5161 labels. LaTex seems to be suited well for this, but it

AW: Question
A small comment: The code of Agnes is written in Fortran. Following book give more details: Kaufman, L. and Rousseeuw, P.J. (1990). _Finding Groups in Data: An Introduction to Cluster Analysis_. Wiley, New York. The 'hclust' function is based an Algorithm contributed to STATLIB by F. Murtagh and the code is written in C. Probably the differences between agnes and hclust causes from...
