This mister JWZ just blogged and tweeted loudly about it, and it looks like he hates CentOS as much as he hates Debian. Coming from a guy whose blog looks like a russian porn site from around 1...

chopped audio problem
I do use metadate since i need people to see the titles. I use livecast in mixer mode. The chopping starts right away I don't use VBR (I commented it out at least). The mp3's are made with XING audiocatalyst (for windows) so I don't really know. Sorry. I tested jwz's 1.3.10 server yesterday. metadata doesn't work fine.. it works for longer periods than it did before.. but if I have it on, it invariably starts goofing up the stream and I get a sound somewhat like a train wreck out of my speakers. I had to switch back to sc because of this.. email...

XScreenSaver
Hi, I'm currently moving all our local school's desktop clients from Slackware 14.1 to CentOS 7 + Xfce. Right now I'm fine-tuning the default user profile. I have a problem with XScreenSaver. The application per se works very well. Only there's a hard-coded pop-up window that reminds the user that he's not running the latest version. So, if I'm running version 5.36 as

...r is locking out a user and it does not then that is security related 3. The way X works is that every X application can listen to all mouse and keyboard actions. This also has a security context. For many sites, any of these make Xscreensaver into a high security item. It makes perfect sense from jwz's point of view because several times something 'simple' in an xscreensaver code has turned into a meltdown somewhere. And the fact that people email him before emailing the EPEL maintainer or opening a bugzilla about it says his time is better served saying "not my problem mate.&q...

reencode scripts if anyone is interested
I decided to make a few shell scripts that can be used to connect to icecast, decode/reencode a stream, and then send the result back to icecast. I guess this can be done with liveice, but this seemed like a simpler solution for my needs. I have it triggered by a cgi script that i click on when at work and want to listen to my tunes at a lower, more reliable bitrate. There are basically

XEmacs vs. GNU Emacs?
As a user of only R, I don't use much of the potential of ESS and Emacs. Without entering a religious feud, is there any reason I should use XEmacs rather than my current GNU Emacs? Last year I arranged with my college radio station and ITS department to webcast the radiostation using icecast. The webcast has been a wonderful success so far. My problem now is not technical, but political. A few days ago I recieved the following message from the station director: ================================================================== hey josh, i talked to [faculty advisor]

I think you can use the --no-splash switch. https://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/man1.html There's probably also a config setting in .xscreensaver. But it was probably worth seeking a patch just to get that classic response. ;-) --keith -- kkeller at wombat.san-francisco.ca.us
